It’s been a month since FIGO 2025, Cape Town. It was amazing to be part of the Global Doulas Corner, representing EDN together with my collegues and .doulafachschule , sharing a table with ICEA , and having DONA International and the South African Doula Association across from us, forming a beautiful corridor of doula vibes. 💜 We met so many inspiring healthcare professionals from almost 40 countries, sharing about our profession, presenting the EDN Feedback on Doula Support (FODS) survey, and discussing the findings from the first one.

Beyond this incredible experience, I’m deeply grateful for the moments shared as the EDN doulas. Cape Town, you were truly unforgettable. Thank you everyone for making this happen!

What a joy, what a life, what a chance!🎶
It’s really hard to put into words what we experienced during the last weekend of September at the EDN Annual Meeting in Vilnius, one month ago, but I can tell you that something invisible and magical happened on earth! 🌍✨
If there is darkness, sorrow, and pain in the world, there is also so much light, love, happiness, and kindness. And I truly believe love and goodness are always more powerful than anything else.

That’s why I am a doula and why we all make this huge effort to come together once a year: to spread this message from the very beginning of life.

Thank you, my dear doula sisters. 💜 Thank you, dear Vilnius team. Everything was amazing.  And thank you to our whole EDN team. You are so loved and appreciated.
See you all next year in Istanbul!

I still continue with online educations (aside from the doula meetings) because of the pandemic and this was my first face to face session in a long time. I was very excited.🤗 ⁣

Marion and Ibrahim, a couple full of love💜 We have completed the sessions having a lot of fun. In the end, the father told that he feels like he knows what to do through the experience and the mother was more clear about the process and what she has to during the rest of her weeks. They are already working with the ‘Birth with no Regret’ team. Now they know very well that all they need to do is practice and get themselves ready for labor. And I feel so lucky that I will be able to accompany them through the rest of their journey.🍀✨ ⁣

Eğitimlere pandemiden dolayı hala online olarak devam etmeyi tercih ediyorum (doula görüşmeleri dışında) ve bu uzun zamandır ilk yüz yüze eğitimimdi. O nedenle çok heyecanlıydım.🤗⁣
⁣
Marion ve İbrahim, aşk dolu bir çift💜 Eğitimleri çok eğlenceli bir şekilde tamamladık. Eğitim sonunda baba, tüm süreç boyunca ne yapaması gerektiğini biliyormuş gibi hissettiğini söyledi. Anne ise süreç hakkında ve geri kalan haftalarda ne yapması gerektiği ile ilgili daha netleşti. Kendileri ‘Keşkesiz Doğum Ekibi’ ile çalışıyorlar ve artık yapmaları gereken şeyin bol bol pratik yapmak ve kendilerini hazırlamak olduğunu biliyorlar. Ben de yolculuklarının geri kalanında onlara eşlik edebileceğim için çok şanslı hissediyorum.🍀✨⁣

Childbirth education is a journey. It is a journey before your actual experience. It is the time to connect with your baby as a couple. It is not only about labor and birth but your inner-self journey. It is a path through parenthood as well. If you are present as a couple, it helps you to share some special moments and brings you together as a couple. ⁣
⁣
As from my side, I witness the change of every couple from the beginning of the course to the end. We share so much together with intense feelings. Therefore some of them even become precious friends.💜⁣

Doğuma hazırlık eğitimi bir yolculuktur. Gerçek deneyimi yaşamadan önce yola çıkmaktır. Bebeğinizle çift olarak bağ kurma zamanıdır. Sadece doğumu değil, kendi içsel yolculuğunuzu da kapsar. Aynı zamanda ebeveynliğe doğru bir yolculuktur. Eğer eğitime çift olarak katıldıysanız, birlikte özel anlar paylaşmanızı sağlar ve sizi birbirinize daha da yakınlaştırır.⁣

Benim açımdan ise; her eğitimde çiftlerin, eğitimin başından sonuna değişimine şahit oluyorum. Birlikte derin duygulu pek çok şey paylaşıyoruz. Bu nedenle çiftlerden bazıları da kıymetli arkadaşlarım oluyorlar. 💜⁣

Yesterday I attend the webinar of ICI (International Childbirth Initiative). They shared about ‘’12 Steps to Safe and Respectful MotherBaby-Family Maternity Care’’⁣
⁣
Here are the highlights that I would like to share with you:⁣
⁣
🌱The explanation of the word MotherBaby was hard touching. It is not written as two separate words because they are inseparable. One of them affects the other.⁣
⁣
🌱The benefits of continuous support during labor and birth, how it improves the outcomes for the mother and the baby.⁣
⁣
🌱It is also mentioned that the women being left alone without birth companions and lack of continuous support during birth because of covid should be changed immediately and against human rights; which I totally agree and believe with all my heart that it will change very soon.⁣
⁣
🌱Allowing labor to unfold at its own pace: Respect time during labor and birth.⁣
⁣
🌱The impact of immediate and prolonged skin to skin contact⁣
⁣
P.S. It is so proud to see Istanbul Birth Academy (the academy that I and many of my colleagues in Turkey are certified with) with the other big names as an endorsing partner organizations to ICI.⁣

There is a massage that can be used during labor and helps the bonding between a couple and their baby during the education. It is called effleurage. We can also call it the ‘light touch massage’. It can be applied by using the back of the fingernails, around the spine. Light touches stimulate the nerves and help to secrete endorphins. When you just watch it, it seems like it can not be effective and then when you feel it, you understand how effective it is. This massage reminds us the times when we desperately try very hard to do something and then we discover how much we can do with just a little effort. Here is one of those exercises where education is more than just preparation for childbirth.💫💫⁣

Doğumda kullanılan ve eğitimde de çiftler arası ve bebekle bağ kurmaya yardımcı bir masaj var. Adı efloraj. Hafif dokunuş masajı da diyebiliriz. Elin arkası ve parmakların ucunu kullanarak, omurganın etrafında uygulanıyor. Ufak dokunuşlarla sinirleri uyarıyor ve endorfin salgısına yardımcı oluyor. Dışarıdan izlediğinizde sanki etkili olamazmış gibi gözüküyor ama hissettiğinizde ne kadar etkili olduğunu anlıyorsunuz. Bu masaj, bazen hayatta çok çabaladığımız zamanlarda, aslında ne kadar ufak hareketlerle ne kadar çok şey yapabildiğimizi hatırlatır bize.
