Making small, consistent changes like staying active, choosing balanced meals, and maintaining a healthy weight can help keep your blood sugar in check and reduce your risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

is the leading cause of cancer-related death according to the CDC. Many people don’t know the hidden risks they may be exposed to every day. Common lifestyle risk factors include:

🚬Smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke
💨Exposure to radon, a colorless and odorless radioactive gas that occurs naturally in soil
🦠Inhaling hazardous chemicals like asbestos, uranium and other toxic products
🏭Exposure to particle pollution, such as inhaling tiny particles from exhaust smoke
🎗️Prior radiation to treat other cancers

In addition to lifestyle risk factors, a family history of lung cancer may also increase your risk. Fortunately, lung cancer is most treatable when it’s caught early. Across our larger HCA Healthcare system of care, Sarah Cannon Cancer Network treats over 12,000 cases each year, bringing deep experience and compassionate care to every patient.

If you think you may have an increased risk for lung cancer based on these risk factors, talk with your doctor or learn more about the health screenings we offer: https://bit.ly/49CkIQW.

FEEL GOOD FRIDAY- DOUBLE DAISY AWARD- Gabby Getz, RN, and Carla Einsteder, RN, 5 South TCT Nursing Unit

This is a DOUBLE DAISY day! Congratulations to Gabby Getz, RN, and Carla Einsteder, RN, who work together on our 5 South Transplant and Cellular Therapy (TCT) nursing unit on their double DAISY award!

Gabby and Carla were both caring for a young mother with a possible diagnosis of leukemia. The patient couldn’t visit with her young children due to the unit’s visitation policy, a policy in place to protect these extremely vulnerable patients. Gabby and Carla found out that her children were about to celebrate their mom’s birthday before she was unexpectedly admitted to the hospital. These two nurses took it upon themselves to purchase a birthday cake for the patient, set up a table outside of the unit and surprised the patient with a birthday party with her kids. It was a beautiful moment that not only contributed to the patient’s healing journey but also showed how these nurses routinely go above and beyond to care for our patients like family.

Gabby and Carla, we are absolutely honored to have you both as part of our family here at HCA Florida North Florida Hospital. Thank you for all that you do for our patients and our community!
If you would like to nominate one of our amazing and compassionate nurses for the DAISY award, visit our website: https://www.hcafloridahealthcare.com/.../the-daisy-award
