FEEL GOOD FRIDAY- DOUBLE DAISY AWARD- Chelsea Davis, RN, and Cierra Bilbrey-Nickless, RN, 6 North Nursing Unit

This is a DOUBLE DAISY day, and boy is it a doozy! Congratulations to Chelsea Davis, RN, and Cierra Bilbrey-Nickless, RN, who work together on our 6 North nursing unit on their double DAISY award!

Chelsea and Cierra were both caring for a long-term patient who had fallen on hard times. They both noticed this patient was lacking connection with the outside world, family and friends---because of his current circumstances. The demands of his medical treatment also prevented him from gaining access to any technology that could help him communicate with others outside of the hospital. Cierra and Chelsea pooled their own personal money together to purchase a tablet and earphones for this patient to help lift him up and out of his current situation.

We believe these nurses not only brightened this patient's day but quite possibly changed the trajectory of their life. Sometimes, it only takes an act of kindness to give someone the strength and ability to get back on their feet.

This is the definition of !

Chelsea and Cierra, we are absolutely honored to have you both as part of our family here at HCA Florida North Florida Hospital. Thank you for all that you do for our patients and our community!

If you would like to nominate one of our amazing and compassionate nurses for the DAISY award, visit our website: https://www.hcafloridahealthcare.com/.../the-daisy-award

July is Cord Blood Donation Awareness Month. Cord blood is rich in hematopoietic stem cells, which are essential for treating numerous medical conditions, particularly those affecting the blood and immune systems. The majority of cord blood donations are used to save the lives of pediatric patients in need. Sometimes, cord blood is disposed after birth if a mother doesn’t provide direction on its use.

HCA Florida North Florida Hospital has been partnering with LifeSouth Community Blood Centers for the last 28 years to collect cord blood donations from willing donors to save lives around the globe. Cord blood donations collected at HCA Florida North Florida Hospital have contributed to 138 cord blood transplants across 26 states and at least a dozen countries.

HCA Florida North Florida Hospital is proud to be one of LifeSouth's top collecting sites in the Southeastern United States. Thank you to our dedicated nurses and providers for educating our mothers and advocating for these life-saving donations.

At HCA Florida Healthcare, demonstrating our commitment to communities means investing in their future — and that begins with supporting our youth. Through our continued partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America across the state, we are proud to back programs and spaces that help children and teens grow, succeed, and dream bigger.

As part of Day 2 of our , HCA Florida Kendall Hospital sponsored a total renovation of the playroom at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade. This space has now been transformed into a colorful, safe, and inviting environment where kids can play, learn, and form lifelong friendships. The joy on the children’s faces and the heartfelt gratitude from Club staff served as reminders of the power of community and connection.

Our commitment to the next generation goes beyond early childhood. Through initiatives like The Pathway to Success program, we help prepare teens for college and careers by giving them first-hand experiences in healthcare. In partnership with organizations like the Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida, students participate in job shadowing, hands-on demonstrations, and one-on-one discussions with HCA Florida Healthcare professionals. These experiences inspire students and open doors to future opportunities, providing the tools and encouragement they need to move forward confidently.

Whether it’s through renovating spaces that foster creativity or providing career-building opportunities, we are proud to support the next generation as they discover their potential. Discover the continual impact HCA Florida Healthcare is making on the Sunshine State: https://bit.ly/40EAGF2.

Today marks the start of our — a time to pause, reflect and honor how our more than 84,000 colleagues and 11,100 physicians care for our patients and communities.

One of those moments came when Stephen Cloutier collapsed before a routine pickleball game. He wasn’t breathing.

His partner, Eliza Duade, recognized the signs of cardiac arrest, called 911, and began CPR. Paramedics rushed Stephen to HCA Florida Englewood Hospital. Stephen was taken to the cardiac catheterization lab and closely monitored in the intensive care unit.

“They were prepared. There was someone with him every step of the way,” said Eliza. “I know it’s their job, but to us, it’s a miracle.”

Thanks to Eliza’s quick action and expert care, Stephen made a remarkable recovery — and soon returned to the court.

Cardiac arrest strikes without warning, but immediate CPR can double or triple survival odds. As Florida’s largest cardiovascular network, we’re here to keep heart care close to home.

RAISING AWARENESS- Larry Hartfield's esophageal cancer story

Long-time Gainesville resident Larry Hartfield was diagnosed with esophageal cancer and was comforted to know his care was in the hands of several doctors at HCA Florida North Florida Hospital he knows and trusts. Now, in his cancer survivorship, he's focused on raising awareness for cancer screenings and early detection.

“The more awareness we can bring for screenings for certain types of cancers, such as colon and breast cancer, and to encourage people to seek medical care when they feel like something just isn’t right, the earlier we can detect cancer and improve their chances of survival,” said Larry. “Don’t wait until it’s too late! There is life after cancer, and being vigilant about your health will help you live a long, healthy life.”
