Confession: I haven't been on a yoga mat in over a month.

🙀

BUT even with the absence of a daily asana practice, I am still living my yoga every day.

I bet you know this, but there is so much more to this beautiful and transformative practice than simply asana (poses / postures).

I'm living my yoga practice when...

💖 I focus on my breath, and practice pranayama ("breath control")
💖 I stay mindful of what I'm doing in the present moment
💖 I take care of others
💖 I choose to speak / act with honesty and kindness
💖 I work to accept my body as it is today
💖 I'm walking and focus on my gait (usually with cues from Melissa Montilla of Sanctuary Yoga and Wellness rattling around in my brain 🙏)
💖 I remember what I can, and cannot, control
💖 I let myself feel my feelings
💖 I practice non-attachment (it's definitely a challenging practice for me)
💖 I let myself rest
💖 I remember the big picture-- that we're all connected

Honestly I could keep adding more and more... and just like me, my practice changes as I go through different seasons.

Regardless of how much I adore the physical practice, the internal lessons and growth on my yoga journey is what really continues to light the path.

✨ There's so much more to yoga than what we do physically on a rubber mat ✨

If it feels hard for you to get on your mat lately, you're not alone. ❤️

This is a something I do when I can't wrap my mind around doing hardly anything on my yoga mat...

❤️ Put on a song that makes you feel good, or inspired, or like moving.
❤️ Roll out your mat, towel, etc (optional)
❤️ Wiggle / move / breathe however the heck you want to, try not to overthink it
❤️ That's it! Keep it grooving when the next song comes on, or check it off your list for the day- it's your choice!

Sometimes I end up dancing a lot, or doing sun salutations, or sitting and watching my breath... But letting go of my expectations for practice and instead focusing on just *getting there* makes all of the difference. It may not look at all like a classic asana practice some days, but if I notice my breath and check-in with my body, I'm going to call it a win.

Do you ever have trouble resting? Slate, my sweet cat in the photo, is absolutely a rest professional.

For me, rest is a practice. A practice of slowing down, of listening to my body, of surrendering, of prioritizing my well-being, of offering myself comfort and support.

It's not always "easy," and of course life "gets in the way" sometimes. But it's about practice... not perfection. 💕

Community over competition! 💯 The world only gets brighter when we all shine our light 💖

On this  I'm feeling extra grateful for all of the amazing women who have lifted me up and supported me. 💗 I wouldn't be where I am without the communities of women I have around me, cheering for me, and inspiring me. We can get further together~ let's root for each other!

Just a few ways that my Yoga practice helps my golf game:

❤️ Asana (yoga postures)- My body gives me a clear reminder if I have or haven't done a bit of my physical yoga practice that day. I definitely notice a big difference in the ease of my swing, and how "grounded" I feel. I've been trying to be kind to myself and not play "cold," making sure that I've warmed up my ankles, hips, and shoulders especially. A bit of twisting and side bending is also nice before I play.

❤️ Pranayama (breath control)- Having a regular breathing practice allows me to better connect with my body and notice how it's responding to my environment / circumstances. I check-in with myself often throughout the day, inviting changes accordingly, and this continues into my golf game. It helps me feel if I'm ever anxiously holding my breath a bit or if I'm getting too frustrated, and helps me breathe more smoothly in sync with my swing.

❤️ Pratyahara (sense withdrawal)- This one I'm constantly challenging myself to work on. Being so concentrated and present in whatever I'm doing, like golfing, that I'm unaware of distractions is so useful. It usually takes me a few swings to really drop into it... But once I get into that zone of moving meditation, I feel free in my bubble of focus. This is a great tool in my belt for blocking out whatever is happening around me, and allowing me to just focus on ME.

"Perfect is the enemy of good"

Throughout my life I've frequently chased perfection... Often procrastinating my personal projects or plans because I'm holding out for the "perfect" sequence, product, caption, photo, recording, etc...

But "perfect" does not exist.

I repeat, in case I didn't fully grasp it the first time--
PERFECT DOES NOT EXIST!!!

This is something I am literally telling myself every single day... Because I do not want to be held back any longer by my own dreams of "perfection."

I have good work that I can do and good things that I can share with the world *right now.* And you do, too! 😉❤️

I’m passionate about sharing the opportunities and benefits of yoga because I have experienced it myself. The teachings of yoga and a dedicated practice have given me a “safe place” to come home to for years now, giving me the space to take care of and check-in with myself. We may come to our mat for physical practice, but the lessons can move far beyond that place and weave into our daily lives.

My main goals as a guide are to encourage mindfulness, help empower practitioners, and provide an opportunity to rest and connect to oneself. I specialize in gentle yoga, restorative yoga, chair yoga, and yoga for beginners.

I believe that yoga is for EVERY body, and would be honored to join you on your yoga journey. 🙏
