From October 4th to 6th, the largest dermatological congress in the Baltics - the 15th BADV / 7th EAAD / 18th LDVA Congress took place at the University of Latvia, in Hall Magna and Small Hall with 213 participants from Latvia, as well as from Lithuania, Estonia, Belarus, Taiwan, Slovenia, Norway, Germany, USA, Austria, Israel, Russia, and Italy.
Leading dermatologists from all around the world, Europe and Baltic read 17 plenary sessions. During the lectures, case studies, practical classes and free communication, the participants of the congress discussed the main diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases, including skin tumors and sexually transmitted diseases, as well as the latest developments in cosmetic dermatology.
For example, prof. A. Khachemoune (USA) delivered a lecture entitled "Updates on Mohs Micrographic Surgery: Focus on new technology", prof. A. Ingber (Israel) with "Forgotten skin diseases - Have they disappeared?", Prof. K. Eisendle (Austria) with "Complications and Errors in Dermatology and Dermatological Surgery", doc. S. Rubins (Latvia) with "Lupus erythematodes", prof. T. Krieg (Germany) with "The clinical spectrum of inborn connective tissue diseases and what we can learn from them", prof. Ji-Chen Ho (Taiwan) with "The treatment of eccrine hydrocystoma by botulinum toxin", prof. A. Rubins (Latvia) with "Practical Dermatology, Clinic, Diagnostic and Treatment of Different Diseases", prof. D. Zaslavsky (Russia) with "Itching dermatosis in pediatric dermatology".
On October 4th and 5th case reports were discussed and all residents and young doctors had the opportunity to speak and present their topics. Two resident doctors - Dr. J. Maskalāne ‘s (Latvia) and Dr. S. Jakstaite’s (Lithuania) performances were recognized as the best in the congress, therefore the organizers of the congress together with Bioderma awarded them with a certificate of the best performance, as well as cash prizes.
Speech at the opening of the congress was addressed by the President of the Congress, professor of the Department of Dermatology, Department of Medicine, University of Latvia Dr. hab. med Andris Rubins, as well as the prorector of the University of Latvia prof. Valdis Seglins and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Latvia prof. Valdis Folkmanis. Opera singer Viktorija Pakalniece also gave an brilliant performance at the opening ceremony. 12 pharmaceutical companies with their own products, including Grindeks, participated in the congress exhibition.
In Opening speech BADV, EAAD, LDVA President - Congress President Andris Rubins thanked all the participants, lecturers and pharmaceutical companies, especially the main supporter - Grindeks and its owner, chairman Kirov Lipman for the selfless support of Latvian dermatologists and the 15th BADV / 7th EAAD / 18th LDVA congress.
The 8th EAAD Congress will be held in 2019 in Israel.
