Dear plant lovers I think all of you have this feeling - spring is coming. For now it doesn't matter that tonight in Latvia it will be around -20 degrees. But we have sun almost every day. And I am happy to announce that we have made new colored mats, in limited quantity. Get ready for the repotting marathon in spring.

What is the perfect amount of plants per month, week, year or in general? Or a certain amount of money you want to spend on plants in a certain period of time? Of course, there are plant people who have decided to have a collection of 15-20 rare plants and not buy every plant that looks very nice at the moment.
I decided not to buy more than 3 plants per month and try to buy cuttings or small plants from other plant people. Of course you should find the right people, but the ones I found really take perfect care of the plants and I am always happy how healthy and happy they are. Of course there are also nice online plant stores in Latvia .tante .me .lv where you can find great and also rare plants. But this month I have already bought 3 plants - Sansevieria moonshine ,Philodendron Florida ghost and Monstera Pinnatipartita .I am very happy with this month's plants and can't wait for next month to get more plants. What about you ,plantastic people?

I can't imagine watching a film without doing something in parallel - knitting, sewing or embroidering. I think that's also why I came up with the idea to start our potting mat project. And I especially like the fact that I can combine my love of sewing, recycling, design and plants in it.
And you can see that also in my 2 which I found on the street in a jar with a few roots and 2 leaves. In 7 years they have grown so big and beautiful. That shows how much you can achieve with love and care. And so it is with recycling and trying to use less stuff, repairing things and not buying new unnecessarily. We can really change a lot around us.

My Monstera variegated cutting has been with us for 1 month now, but has not yet really formed new roots. Of course, I have been researching how to help it grow roots faster. There are many ways of setting it up, but I decided on water from the start. A few days ago I read that it would be better to put it in an opaque glass. Now it has actually grown new roots and I don't know if it's because "spring is coming" or if it really happened because of the new darker glass vase. I'm going to try that now with my little philodendron friend. Since I don't have another dark glass at the moment, I'll just take a normal glass and a kids sock with it. There's always one left over when the other one has been eaten by little monsters or the washing machine.

I know that most of us already had a lot of plants before "staying at home" and got even more because we wanted to make the place where we spend all our time more beautiful. But now that the future looks brighter and maybe we can think about travelling a bit, I'm also thinking about my plants. It was easy to ask the neighbours to come and water them when you don't have more than 10 plants, but what happens when you have more than 50? Should you find someone like a „plant sitter“? And I was also thinking about an internet platform where all the plant lovers from all over the world can meet and coordinate to swap houses for a dedicated period of time. That would be perfect, if you put your plants in the hands of a real plant lover who also takes care of your house at the same time. Maybe it already exists and I don't know about it. Please do get in touch if you have seen such a platform before.

Yesterday I noticed that the days are getting 1 hour longer again. And the pink sunrise shows that spring is already waiting around the corner. This gave me a real energy boost with which I gave my plants a bath day. Also for my Clusia princess. Actually one of those hard to kill plants that I sometimes unintentionally neglect. But she gives no sign at all about her feelings and is always green and happy. They survive everything, just like ZZ plant and snake plants. But now I have decided to repot her in the best potting mix I know. And I hope she will be even happier now.
