Nutritional Immunology is about Prevention
In addition to healthy eating, a cheerful and positive outlook on life, regular exercise, and enough sleep also help protect the immune system.
[NUTRITION]
Healthy nutrition comes from plant foods that are natural and do not cause side effects. Instead of acquiring a single nutrient in the form of nutrient extracts, consume a variety of plant foods. Eating whole plant foods rich in phytochemical, antioxidants, and polysaccharides provides the body with the right form of nutrition.
[ATTITUDE]
Stress causes chronic illness. In present day, stress is caused by an increasing number of psychological factors, such as work pressure, marital issues or financial burdens. Under such circumstances, the body’s normal physiological reaction towards stress may do more harm than good, causing conditions such as stroke, heart disease, diabetes, ulcers and neck pain. Chronic anxiety weakens the immune system’s capability to fight diseases. Scientist posit that stress induces corticosteroid production in the body, and this suppresses the immune system, increasing the risk of cancer, influenza and other diseases.
[EXERCISE]
According to the American Cancer Society, a healthy plant-based diet, paired with a moderately active lifestyle and topped with a positive outlook towards life, may prevent a third of all cancer cases. From a health perspective, exercises performed should not be overly intense. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends moderate physical activity. Daily walks help in maintaining a healthy body weight; keeping the bones, joints, and muscles healthy; reducing stress levels; and preventing chronic disease. Exercise even helps prevent the common cold.
[SLEEP]
Without a doubt, a good night’s sleep is important for health. A good and undisturbed sleep plays an important role in maintaining a healthy nervous system and keeping the heart healthy. It also helps us to maintain a healthy body weight. There is also a strong correlation between sleep and the health of the immune system. Research has shown that being deprived of two to three hours of sleep in a week is enough to weaken the immune system.
