Amelia thinks SCHOOL IS COOL!
Back in the swing of things & enjoying an after school treat of whipped cream.

It’s the simple daily things we take for granted, when given a second chance, that fill our hearts with overwhelming gratitude.

ONE YEAR AGO- Amelia received her stem cell transplant from a generous German donor on 8/17/21, so what's next?…

MONDAY 8/22/22 - she will have an all day hospital appointment to complete a full review and stem cell test.

There have been hiccups along the way, but it’s a really big WIN for her to make it 1 year without going back to the hospital!

Moving forward this is our hope & prayer for Amelia:
1. medication continues to provide relief from her graft vs host disease (GVH)
2. positive test results are provided at the Monday appointment
3. stem cell test remains at 100% donor
4. She continues everyday life activities in her Amazing Amelia way ❤️

AMELIA’s SUMMER UPDATE:

Amelia continues to have monthly lab reports that show her blood counts are doing very well overall. However, during the spring Amelia was not feeling well, Drs discovered that her body was battling Graft VS Host disease (GVH). She has completed two rounds of steroids & begun tapering off of the drugs. Ultimately we pray GVH subsides and does not return. Doctors will look to a maintenance drug if it remains after this last treatment.

August 17, 2022 will be her 1 year transplant birthday! It’s hard to believe we’re almost there! Our goal is the Post Transplant appointment will reveal her stem cells remain at 100% ❤️

MAKE A WISH:

The Make a Wish foundation granted Amelia a family trip to Disney! Wondering what the Dammen Crew did during the trip????

1. We boarded the plane before anyone else, sat in the cockpit, and received a welcoming round of applause before take off
2. Stayed at Give Kids the World resort which included ice cream shop from 8am - 10pm, party nights-halloween, Christmas, games galore, spa for nails and tattoo, toy fair stopped by everyday we left the grounds, and a BUNCH of friendly volunteers that we still talk about to this day!
3. First stop Gatorland-big gators, big gift shop, big lovies
4. Fast passed to the front of every line at the theme Parks (magic kingdom, sea world, Hollywood & universal studios) and ate lots of Mickey Mouse ear ice cream!

It was a FANtastic time and we are beyond grateful to have went with the Make a Wish foundation. It was very special ❤️.

There are so many generous and kind people in this world and we are so grateful to be receipents of their love. Thank you all!

WOW! what a year!
Today Amelia and Andrew (along with mom and dad) visited Jesuit preparatory school as part of the “Be The Match” donor drive.

Right over a year ago Amelia was diagnosed with AML + 2 mutations. Tom Garrison, principal of Jesuit Prep in Dallas (he himself a stem cell donor) reached out to assist in any way possible. Amelia’s case was presented to 2021 seniors during their annual donor drive & Mr Garrison connected the family with “Be the Match” registry. The family hosted a successful drive at St Thomas Aquinas.

Amelia went through chemo and ultimately a stem cell transplant. A year later, here we are. The family was honored today to walk on campus, Amelia as stem cell recipient, to discuss the life saving impact of being a donor. Mom, Celeste, spoke to the class of 2022 seniors of their journey. Not a dry eye.

Thank you to Jesuit and Tom Garrison for being leaders by example. You live what you preach and for that the Dammens will be forever grateful.

Well Army, we’ve received some pretty amazing news about our Amelia today…not that her nickname “Amazing Amelia” would ever imply otherwise!

She’s reached 100% donor stem cells!

Right over 1 year ago, Amelia was admitted to Childrens Hospital with AML. A long haul, but this has been the goal. What a blessing ❤️ God is good.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support as the family navigates through the ongoing healing process.

That’s our 100% German Gal! (Don’t forget her donor is German) 😊

Life is about to change for the mighty mighty Dammen's. Amelia celebrated another successful series of test results and the Drs have requested she return to school! This exciting news was celebrated with giggling, shopping for uniforms, and drinking a Shirley Temple--aka, kiddie cocktail

POW-Dammen twin power activate:
-STA school
-January 31st
-7:30am

Prayer request: Yesterday, the Drs completed a stem cell test, we will be notified within 7-12 days about the results. We know Amelia's Army of Angels have been marching long, hard, and your feet probably ache by now, but we are asking that you continue to pray that her stem cell count rises from 96.5 to 100%. Her donor cells need to continue to takeover.

The power of prayer is real, God has just given us more time to keep the faith!
