Here is an easy formula to follow when making a smoothie. Fill your cup with 50% leafy greens, 1-2 servings of fruit, 1 serving of healthy fats, 1-3 servings of boosts, and a liquid. Add all those ingredients, in that order, to your cup, twist on the blade and blend! You can also build a smoothie in your nutribullet cup the night before without the liquid. My go-to is a handful of baby spinach leaves, but you can also blend in carrots, beets, or canned pureed pumpkin. Celery and cucumbers are also smoothie-friendly, but they arent as nutrient-dense as deeply colored varieties. I like to combine leafy greens with berries, since the purple and blue hues mask the green color best.

For a smoothie that keeps you full and satisfied for longer, focus on adding protein and healthy fats. There are infinite choices for protein powders, whether in flavor profile or protein source (animal or plant-based). Its best to opt for a choice that has minimal ingredients and sugar. Cashews, almonds, peanuts, sesame (in the whole form or as butter) are easy protein add-ins. Chia seeds or h**p seeds are also great choices, as they are also high in essential fatty acids and fiber. However, there is really no reason why you cannot buy fresh produce or get organic produce from a local health food store or farmers market. If you typically use orange juice in your smoothies, freeze some of it in an ice cube tray and add those to your smoothies! I dont recommend freezing almond milk, as it will separate when frozen. But it tastes the same when blended up in a smoothie, so you can try it if you like it super thick! Freezing your liquid works really well if you like using juice in your smoothie.

Solid food is extremely important for digestion, especially if you are removing the skins and/or peels of the fruits and vegetables you are blending into smoothies. In many fruits and vegetables, a large portion of the dietary fiber content is found in the skin or peel. Eating apples without the skin, for example, cuts their fiber benefit in half. Still, snacks such as veggies and nuts will help keep you full between meals and smoothies.
