So this weekend I really burned myself out trying to meet up a deadline and it occurs to me....this is normal mode for some ladies. Constantly racing against the clock, burned out, stressed out on a 24/7 mode.
Now I don't think we hear this nearly enough....too much of stress is bad for your health, bad for your waistline and bad for the number you get to see on the scale.
It is not just the fact that you tend to make poorer food choices when you are stressed out but the body also releases cortisol a stress hormone which predisposes you to increased fat deposition especially around your belly area.
Take out time to log off, unwind, relax, meditate, exercise. The world is not going to end if you take some time off every now and then. And very importantly, always plan ahead. Waiting to get things done at the last minute will always ramp up your stress levels unnecessarily.

Yes...I sincerely believe and know that all these can speed things up but you have to work for it. My turning point came when o decided to take my destiny in my hands and work for the body I wanted despite the fact that I was still nursing my 2nd baby.

So doing a throwback post today because I had a talk with someone today and she was full of complains on how all the readily available Nigerian foods are all carby and starchy...what was she supposed to eat to lose weight.
My response, she needed to be a lot more smarter in terms of what she put on her plate.
We have grown so used to bulking up with heavy carbs...while there is nothing wrong with eating complex carbs as part of a whole food diet, they shouldn't steal the whole show and occupy virtually every available space on your plate. Where is your protein source? That tiny piece of meat? Where are your veggies...
All it take to eat smartly is a little bit of planning and loads of accountability.

The sugar free challenge is still on and its the 4th day today. We are discovering all the mind-blowing possibilities that exist when you choose to treat yourself to optimal well balanced nutritious food.
Day 3, i was live in the group and we talked about how to structure your meals properly so you don't keep hearing stuff like coke and gala calling your name even though you have eaten. You may technically be eating the right things but if you are eating them in the wrong proportions, you wont feel full and the cravings will come calling in full force.
You want to be getting adequate amounts of protein, fibre, healthy fats and so on. You have already seen what it is like not to take action, you have seen what it is like to give up....don't you wonder what you just might discover if only you persist and try a little harder?
Just hang in there, keep eating right, keep adding new healthy habits to your routine, refuse to remain on the floor when you fall, keep rising back up. Persist....take a chance....never give up. You deserve the best!

Me to myself: Oh my God, i ate really poorly today. OK, you know what? I won't have breakfast tomorrow. In fact, I will eat just once at 5pm. I will have just one cucumber and a piece of fish..
Tomorrow is finally here and I start the day really gingered up but alas, before it is 2pm I start seeing stars, I can barely concentrate at work and all I can think of is I need strength fast before I die. So I run downstairs to the canteen and at this point I am not even thinking. I don't even wait to be served, I open the fridge and quickly grab a bottle of coke and down it in 2 seconds. Now that I can see clearly, I begin to think of what to eat and probably end up having a pastry on top of that. Raise your hand if you are like me...any witness?
So the thing is, denial only sets you up. You and I know that you ate definitely going to eat more than just one cucumber before the end of the day...plan for your 3 healthy meals and eat them at the right time. That way, your blood sugar and energy levels remain stable and you crave less. Besides, it is almost impossible to make good food choices when you are very hungry.
Don't be afraid to eat...just eat better and smarter. In the long run, you will be happier for it. Tag a mama who needs to stop planning not to eat...

One of the points i shared was ensuring you are getting sufficient amounts of chromium and Vitamin B in your diet. These are essential micro nutrients that you do not want to ignore. I used to be so hung up on all the factors that were out of my control....
How I couldn't go to the gym because there was no one to leave the baby with...
How I couldn't do much because being fat for me was largely genetic...
How i couldn't readily access some of the healthier food alternatives.. .
I have come to realize that taking charge of the one thing directly in your control - what you choose to feed your body with more than compensates for all the other variables you cannot control.
So before you go complaining about why it isn't working for you...what are you doing about what is directly within your influence? You got the power mama....respect your body and choose to eat right. You will see that all those other things are not quite as important.

You walk into your kitchen and the first thing that meets your eye are the jars of candy and chocolate that line the counter tops...and you wonder why you cant keep yourself from junk and processed treats.
You driving past your favourite fast food outlet and you always make it a point of duty to stop and buy bread and ice-cream. You tell yourself its for the children even though we both know you are going to be consuming more than half of the thing and besides, you got some for the children yersterday as well...
When was the last time, you went on a fruit and veggie splurge and just littered your fridge, pantry and tabletops with healthy food instead?
Out of sight is out of mind. Stop littering your house with uhhealthy foods. If you dont stop to buy that snack you will not die. Keep some fruits in a bowl on the kitchen table instead. Have a wide array of healthy options to greet you when you open the fridge. When you do buy the snacks and stuff for the kids, buy sizeable portions and dont keep any leftovers...share the whole thing. And for some of those household staples you really cant help but buy, keep them out of sight,freeze the remaining when not in use.
Bottom line...if the healthier food options are available, accessible and within reach, chances are you will make right food choices at home.
