It's that morocco feeling for me ...

Normally, at this time of year, we would be hyped about our annual New Year's Eve trip in the Sahara, which has been a thing since 2016 when My Moroccan Adventure came to life.

Sadly, this is the second year in a row that our most favorite Moroccan experience has been canceled. We are sad to be so far away from home (6500 miles, to be exact) and we are missing all the new and familiar faces.

But what we are more concerned about are the people who make these trips happen.  The backbone of Moroccan tourism:  guides, drivers, the families who own and operate the accommodations that make our trips so magical, and the guys who take care of the camels.  The women who weave the beautiful carpets that no one has been able to buy.  The cooks who spend their time preparing the most delicious Moroccan dishes.  So many people who have been out of work for too long.  People who depend on tourism income to feed their children and keep their lights on.

We are hopeful to be fully back in operation in Spring of 2022, but right now, the borders are still closed, people are still out of work, and tensions are at an all time high.  Meanwhile, we just close our eyes and picture those endless landscapes and beautiful sunsets and feel the warm Sahara sun.

I complain a lot about work, because well, it's work. But sometimes I am reminded how wonderful it feels to do what I do for a living, that I have chosen a path to be my own boss - which requires a huge amount of patience and discipline.

I recently was introduced to an amazing person, Annika Ziehen, who is not only a very accomplished globe-trotting author, but also just a genuinely interesting and fun person to be around, who I am happy to now call my friend. Within our partnership, Adil and I were able to show her the magic that we create within our Sahara trips and she wrote an amazing piece about her experience traveling with us and our crazy train of other travel enthusiasts.

You can read it here. It's a great read - whether you've been on a trip with us, or if you are considering one, or if you just need to kill about 15 minutes and want to learn something interesting. The Sahara is hands-down, The Most Magical place I've ever been and should be on everyone's bucket list. We can make that wish a reality!

Ok, ok, we know it's a little cliche, but who DOESN'T want to go wandering through these winding streets to have a real-life Aladdin experience? 🤷

A little fun fact about the Marrakech Medina: these roads are called Derbs and there are hundreds, but only a few have street signs. Most are not wide enough for a single small car to pass, which is why most people stick to walking or riding motorbikes in the Medina. Watch out - they whizz by at lightening speeds!
