Latvia 🇱🇻 is another Baltic Member State that continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to building a resilient Common European Asylum System (CEAS). It has not only trained 144 of its officials at the EUAA Academy, 38 of whom just last year, but in 2025 also deployed 3 officials to participate in EUAA operations supporting Member States’ asylum and reception systems. This latter development is a clear demonstration of the country’s spirit of solidarity with other EU countries – a value which the CEAS is built upon.
The Agency’s Executive Director, Nina Gregori, ended her visit to the region in Riga, where she met with Rihards Kozlovskis, Minister of the Interior, as well as Līga Vijupe, Anzelika Alika and Ilva Levina from the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA). She expressed her appreciation for the constructive and frank discussions on the impact of the geopolitical situation faced by Latvia and the region on asylum trends, and the recognition that the more robust rules brought about by the new Pact on Migration and Asylum have the potential to better-address these.
With over 50% of the Agency’s products to be updated or developed for the Pact already completed, the EUAA is working nonstop to enable Latvia and all Member States to transition to the new rules in as frictionless a manner as possible. Additional support can include anything from technical guidance, to operational support, to direct training.
As with the other Baltic Member States, she also took the opportunity to formally introduce the Agency’s new Liaison Officer to Latvia, Daria Pokrivac. Her role is to facilitate the contacts between the EUAA and national institutions, and in doing so to enable Latvia to make the best use of the tools the Agency can offer to help in the management of international protection. The EUAA looks forward to continuing to strengthen our already-strong relationship and cooperation.
