To mark World Cancer Day 2026 the Ministry of Health and Wellness, in collaboration with the University of Mauritius, organised a series of activities on Tuesday 03 February 2026.

The official launch was performed by Hon Anil Kumar Bachoo, GOSK, Minister of Health and Wellness, in the presence of Hon (Miss) Anishta Babooram, Junior Minister, Ministry of Health and Wellness; Hon Dhaneshwar Damry, Junior Minister, Ministry of Finance; Hon Govinden Pynivel Venkatasami, Deputy Chief Government Whip; Dr the Hon (Mrs) Babita Thannoo, Member of National Assembly; Professor (Dr) Mohammad Issack Santally, Ag. Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academia), University of Mauritius; Dr Abdou Salam Gueye, WHO Representative (a.i.) in Mauritius; and other eminent personalities.

A sensitisation march was also organised from the MSK Navin Soonarane Gymnasium to the Paul Octave Wiehe Auditorium, University of Mauritius, Réduit, to raise awareness on cancer prevention and early detection.

The School Health Programme for Secondary Schools, targeting students in Grades 7, 9 and 12 across all public and private secondary schools in Mauritius, was launched on Tuesday 27 January 2026 at the Mohun Parsad Sharma Jugdambi State Secondary School, Goodlands.

To mark the 125th birth anniversary of the late Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, fondly remembered as the Father of the Nation, a solemn and dignified ceremony was held today at the SSRN Hospital to honor his enduring legacy and visionary leadership.

The official ceremony was performed by Hon Anil Kumar Bachoo, GOSK, Minister of Health and Wellness in the presence of Hon Ranjiv Woochit, OSK, Minister of Local Government, Hon Kaviraj Rookny, Member of the National Assembly, Hon Nitin Prayag, Member of the National Assembly, Hon Rameshwar Etwareea, Member of the National Assembly, Hon Mohamed Eshan Juman, Member of the National Assembly, Mrs Sunita Joypaul, Daughter of Late Sir Seewoosagar Ramgoolam and Dr Harish Reesaul, Regional Health Director.

The event also saw the participation of other eminent personalities, healthcare professionals, and staff members who gathered to pay homage to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam’s lifelong dedication to public service, social justice, and the upliftment of the Mauritian people.

As a towering figure in the nation’s history, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam’s contributions to the fields of health, education, and democracy continue to resonate deeply across generations. SSRN Hospital, which bears his name, stands as a living testament to his commitment to accessible healthcare and human dignity.

The East, Central and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Wellness, is conducting a three-day conference to review the challenges facing health systems and to identify best practices in health care across the region. The theme of the conference is “Enhancing Health Systems for Equity, Resilience, and Sustainability”, and it is being held from 04 to 06 August 2025 at the InterContinental Resort, Balaclava.

The opening ceremony of the 15th Regional Best Practices Forum (BPF) and the 31st Directors’ Joint Consultative Committee was carried out by Hon Anil Kumar Bachoo, GOSK, Minister of Health and Wellness, in the presence of Dr Ntuli A. The Ministry of Health and Wellness, in collaboration with the High Commission of India, celebrated the International Day of Yoga 2025 today at the Cote D’Or National Sports Complex. The official ceremony was graced by Dr the Hon. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, GCSK, FRCP, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius, in the presence of Hon. Anil Kumar Bachoo, GOSK, Minister of Health and Wellness; His Excellency Mr. Anurag Srivastava, High Commissioner of India to Mauritius; and other eminent personalities.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness actively participated in the Salon de la Santé, de l’Alimentation et du Bien-Être 2025, held from 6 to 8 June 2025 at the Swami Vivekananda International Convention Centre, Pailles, with 12 dedicated stands.

Key activities included NCD Screening, blood donation, renal dialysis, nutrition, cardiac care, drug control, and career guidance.

Daily 15-minute health talks covered topics such as HIV and drug addiction, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and organ donation were also held.

The event, organised in collaboration with Radio Plus, showcased vital health services. The official launching ceremony was performed by Dr Fazil Khodabaccus, Director Health Services and Dr Nishant Nundlall, Officer in Charge, NCD, Health Promotion and Research Unit on Friday 06 June 2025.
