AMR is already harming our health, food systems, environment, and economies. It is not a future challenge, it is happening now. Drug-resistant infections continue to rise, yet awareness, investment, and action remain far below what is urgently needed.

To “protect our present and secure our future,” we must prioritize long-term investment and coordinated action across the human, animal, and environmental health sectors. Strengthening surveillance systems, ensuring equitable access to quality medicines and diagnostics, promoting innovation, and building resilient health systems all require sustained commitment and resources.

AMR Week 2025 is a call to act now before the medicines we rely on lose their power.

1 in 10 babies globally is born too soon.
These newborns often have immature lungs, brains, immune systems, and difficulty regulating their body temperature, which makes them highly vulnerable to serious and potentially life-threatening complications. When preterm babies do not receive timely, specialized care, we lose not only their lives, but also the futures they could have filled with love, learning, and growth.

By strengthening maternal health services, improving the quality of care, and supporting families, we can reduce the risks and safeguard the futures of millions of infants. Preventing preterm births starts with early and consistent antenatal care, including timely ultrasounds to track fetal development, detect complications, and identify multiple pregnancies. Effective management of chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and infections is also essential, along with appropriate treatments for women at risk or showing early signs of preterm labor.

It is time to ensure that every newborn receives the specialized support they need. Investing in high-quality maternity services, promoting women’s health, and expanding access to care for small and vulnerable babies can transform outcomes and protect lives
