In Maldives today, corruption and black markets thrive with government blessing. USD trade is openly black market, and while the state taxes MVR 160 on a pack of ci******es, Marlboro is sold at MVR 100 on the black market — delivered to your door.

If police, customs, MPL and other institutions cannot stop this, why waste our tax money on them?

Evidence points to these illegal networks being tied to Muizzu’s government. This is not governance — this is organized corruption.

The Maldives faces deep social and economic challenges, and the starting point is corruption. It is widespread across the nation, deeply rooted in government offices and independent institutions—particularly the judiciary. Corruption has destroyed public trust, weakened stability, and allowed a few individuals to grow richer while the majority of citizens suffer.

Drugs, gangs, and organized crime thrive because institutions have failed. Criminals escape accountability through political influence and illegal money. Independent institutions are no longer independent—they are controlled by corruption.

The future of our nation depends on a collective decision. We must elect leaders with clean profiles and proven records of economic and social success. In 2028, our choice must be clear: a president who is honest, corruption-free, and committed to building a just, prosperous, and stable Maldives.

"Our nation deserves a leader who is free from corruption, who carries a clear vision to build economic and social prosperity, and who opens doors for every citizen’s growth and well-being. In 2028, the only leader who carries this trust and capability is MDA President Honourable Mohamed Siyam Mohamed."

Statement on the Current Situation in the Maldives

I call upon the international community and fellow Maldivian citizens to recognize the grave situation unfolding in our nation. Under the leadership of President Dr. Muiz, the government is plagued by systemic corruption while ordinary Maldivians struggle with record-high inflation. Essential needs such as food, housing, healthcare, and education have become increasingly unaffordable.

The Maldivian economy is dangerously dependent on imports, and with the exchange rate surpassing 21 rufiyaa to one US dollar, the cost of living has reached unbearable levels. Instead of finding solutions through effective diplomacy and sound governance, the current administration has demonstrated a lack of vision, capacity, and experience, leaving the country vulnerable to economic collapse.

If this trajectory continues, the Maldives risks not only financial bankruptcy but also the erosion of our sovereignty. Citizens already face hunger and deprivation, and the social fabric of our nation is under severe strain.

For this reason, I call on Maldivian citizens to unite peacefully and demand accountability through protest, civic engagement, and the exercise of our democratic rights. The Maldives deserves leadership with integrity, competence, and a commitment to safeguarding both our independence and the wellbeing of our people
