ARE YOU AN OVERTHINKER? HERE'S HOW TO TELL AND WHAT IT'S DOING TO YOU.

Do you ever find yourself trapped in a loop of thoughts, replaying conversations, decisions or mistakes over and over again? If so, you might be an OVERTHINKER. Overthinking is th act of analysing situations excessively, often leading to unnecessary stress and anxiety. While it's normal to reflect on past events or plan for the future, overthinking takes it to an extreme, making it hard to focus, relax, or even sleep.

SIGNS YOU'RE AN OVERTHINKER
One of the biggest signs of overthinking is an inability to let go of things. You may constantly second-guess your choices, fearing that you made the wrong decision. Overthinkers also tend to worry about things they can't control, imagining worst-case scenarios even when there's little evidence to support their fears. Another common sign is replaying conversations in your head, wondering if you said something wrong or how others may have perceived you.

THE SIDE EFFECTS OF OVERTHINKING

Overthinking affects your entire well-being; it can lead to anxiety, depression, and decision fatigue. It can also cause headaches, insomnia, and even digestive issues due to the stress it puts on your body. Overtime, chronic overthinking can make you feel exhausted, unmotivated, and disconnected from the present moment as your mind is always stuck in the past or worrying about the future.

HOW TO COPE WITH OVERTHINKING
The good news is that a Psychologist can help you to control overthinking by using effective coping strategies such as mindfulness techniques, cognitive restructuring (challenging your thoughts), taking action instead of dwelling, the power of letting go etc.

GAMBLING DISORDER (ADDICTION)
One of the growing problems that destroy lives and bring people to counselling is a condition known as gambling disorder. Gambling disorder is the uncontrollable urge to keep gambling despite the toll it takes on your life. Gambling disorder like any other addiction does not discriminate, it affects people from all walks of life; male or female, young or old, educated or uneducated, rich or poor etc. As a Psychologist I help many people on a daily basis overcome their gambling addictions (aviator, sports betting, casino etc) and live happier and productive lives again through professional counselling.

People with gambling disorder are compelled to keep playing to recover the money they have lost (chasing losses). If they win a certain amount of money it reinforces their gambling behavior and they continue to bet with the hope of winning bigger amounts but unfortunately they end up losing everything (chasing wins). Gamblers have to always lie to themselves and believe their lies and this maintains their gambling behavior. As the gambling problem worsens they start borrowing money or selling their valuable property in order to bet with the hope of multiplying the money which worsens their financial situation.

If you are concerned about your own or loved one's gambling behavior, please reach out for help.
