Kendo Association of Malawi stands with the KHONJE Family in Ndirande - Blantyre as they mourn the passing of their beloved son, brother, uncle and a father to his family and wife.

Before his untimely demise, M***a KHONJE was serving under the British Army in the United Kingdom.

M***a joined as a Kendo player in 1994 under the instructorship of senpai Shinobu Hata. He was good friend to everyone in Malawi Kendo Team and as an association, we join the family in mourning the loss of our beloved friend. M***A, We will miss your presence and your love for Kendo in Malawi.

The remains of our beloved friend will arrive in the country over the weekend and he will be laid to rest on Saturday, 8th March 2025 at HHI Cemetery in Blantyre. Kendo players around Blantyre, please arrange time to attend the burial ceremony.

May the Soul of M***A KHONJE rest peacefully.

On Sunday, 10th November 2024 Austinie SOMBA sempai travelled to Lilongwe, capital of MALAWI where he taught Kendo students at Kamuzu Institute for Sports.
According to SOMBA sempai, he said he was very impressed with how KENDO is growing from strength to strength in the Capital city. Many children come from surrounding townships of Area 18, Chilinde to join practice. Limiting factor is shortage of Shinai for children who comes.
In the picture, are KENDO students who attended last Sunday 's practices.
In a special way, many thanks goes to Warren Ho sempai from South African Kendo Federation who donated the Kendo uniforms you are seeing in the pictures. Arigatou Warren sempai !

訃報
Kendo Association of Malawi a sports affiliate under the Malawi National Council of Sports [MNCS] wishes to convey condolences to the bereaved families and everyone in Malawi and elsewhere on the untimely death of the state Vice President, Dr. Saulos Klaus CHILIMA and 9 others who died in a plane crash on Monday, 10th June, 2024.
マラウイ・ナショナル・スポーツ評議会[MNCS]傘下のマラウイ剣道協会は、6月10日(月)に発生した飛行機墜落事故により亡くなられたサウロス・クラウス・チリマ副大統領をはじめとする9名の方々のご冥福をお祈りするとともに、ご遺族の皆様、そしてマラウイをはじめとする地域の皆様に哀悼の意を表します。

Kendo Association of Malawi also wishes to inform all the Kendo players across the country that it has cancelled Kendo training in Malawi following the directive of the MNCS during the 21-Day observation of National Mourning.
マラウイ剣道協会は、MNCSの指示に従い、21日間の喪に服すこと、マラウイでの剣道稽古を中止することを、マラウイ全土の剣道選手に通達します。

May the souls of the late Dr. Saulos Klaus CHILIMA others rest peacefully.

マラウイの首都リロングェで剣道教室が開始されました！（English below）
マラウイのオースティン・ソンバ先輩から嬉しいニュースが届きました。

On 31st March, 2024, we witnessed the birthday of KENDO Club in the Capital city of Malawi, Lilongwe at KAMUZU INSTITUTE FOR SPORTS.
2024年3月31日、私たちはマラウイの首都リロングウェのカムズスポーツ研修所で剣道クラブの誕生日を目撃しました。

For a long time, the sport of was being played in the commercial city of Blantyre. Many thanks to the following senpai for their encouragement and great efforts; Russell Mambala, Gift Nankhonya and Osman Bakali.
長い間、剣道は商業都市ブランタイヤで行われていました。
励ましと多大な努力をしてくれた次の先輩たち：ラッセル・マンバラ、ギフト・ナンホニャ、オスマン・バカリに感謝します。

The establishment of Kamuzu Institute for Sports KENDO Club in the Capital city will help to promote the development of Kendo in Malawi as well as foster the friendly relations for all individuals interested in learning traditional martial arts of Japan.
首都に『カムズスポーツ研修所剣道クラブ』を設立することは、マラウイの剣道の発展を促進するとともに、日本の伝統的な武道の学習に関心を持つすべての人々の友好関係を促進するのに役立ちます。

We hope this development will bring the Malawi Kendo to the forefront as players will be motivated to engage with other nations around the world.
私たちは、この発展によりマラウイ剣道が最前線に立って、選手たちが世界中の他国との交流に意欲を持つようになることを願っています。

Probably, Malawi KENDO is ranked second or third in Africa. Other notable countries doing Kendo in Africa are Tunisia, Morocco, Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana, Sudan, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Cameron, Namibia, Madagascar and South Africa.
おそらくマラウイの剣道はアフリカで二番目か三番目の位置に入るでしょう（注：ソンバ先輩の主観です）。アフリカで剣道を行っている他の注目すべき国は、チュニジア、モロッコ、セネガル、ナイジェリア、ガーナ、スーダン、エジプト、リビア、アルジェリア、カメルーン、ナミビア、マダガスカル、そして、南アフリカです（注：南アフリカ剣道連盟がアフリカ大陸内での代表的な存在です）。

We greatly appreciate the administrative assistance from the Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS), Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Embassy of Japan in Malawi for their technical assistance throughout the years.
私たちは、長年にわたるマラウイ国家スポーツ評議会（MNCS）、国際協力機構（JICA）、および在マラウイ日本大使館の技術支援に深く感謝いたします。

It is our sincere hope and expectation that all Malawians will support the sport of KENDO in our country as we are “Dreaming Big” to host the first “All African KENDO Championship in 2026 - MALAWI “

マラウイ剣道協会 日本人側管理人です。
マラウイ剣士のジョセフさんより11月4日にブランタイアユースセンターで行われた稽古レポートが届いたのでアップ致します。　
今回の稽古に、JICA海外協力隊のマエヤマ・ナゴミ隊員が見学および指導に来て下さいました。
今回の訪問およびご縁に感謝致します。マエヤマ隊員様、どうかマラウイ剣士たちの良きセンパイになってあげて下さい。

Training report from Joseph san.
On 4th November 2023, we were very pleased to welcome a new Kendo Instructor, Miss Nagomi Maeyama (Anankhoma). Maeyama senpai is a JOCV/JICA volunteer currently assigned as a teacher in Lilongwe but has a lot of KENDO experience while she was in Japan.
2023年11月4日、マラウイ剣道協会は新しくマエヤマ・ナゴミセンパイ（女性）を迎えることができて大変嬉しく思います。 マエヤマセンパイは、現在リロングウェで教師として赴任しているJICA海外協力隊のボランティアですが、日本にいた間は剣道の経験が豊富だったと伺いました。

Kendo Association of Malawi is very grateful to JICA Malawi office and Embassy of Japan for facilitating our connection with her.
マラウイ剣道協会は、彼女とのつながりを促進してくださったJICAマラウイ事務所と日本大使館に非常に感謝しています。

After KENDO practice, we had time to show her birthplace for Kendo in Malawi (ground in front of Central Medical Stores - Blantyre) and hospital surrounding area where most Kendo pioneers stayed during the early days in Malawi. She was impressed to learn the humble beginnings of Kendo in the country.
剣道の練習の後、私たちはマラウイの剣道発祥の地（ブランタイアのセントラル・メディカル・ストア前のグラウンド）と、マラウイ剣道の先駆者が派遣されていた病院（クイーンエリザベス中央病院）周辺エリアを案内しました。 彼女はこの国で剣道の素朴な始まりを知り、感銘を受けてくれていました。

剣道デモンストレーションレポート - 2023年10月7日

Kendo Association of Malawi would like to express its gratitude to the Embassy of Japan in Malawi for inviting it to participate on the JAPAN DAY which fell on 7th October, 2023.
マラウイ剣道協会は、在マラウイ日本国大使館より、2023年10月7日の「JAPAN DAY」に招聘されたことに感謝の意を表します。

Representatives from our association demonstrated KENDO alongside with other martial arts groups.
当協会の代表は、他の武道団体とともに剣道の演武を披露しました。

The members enjoyed sampling various Japanese cultural exhibitions like Tea Ceremony, Paper – Folding exercises (Origami), play Cup & Ball game (Kendama), eating popular street foods (Takoyaki), learn basic writing of Japanese characters (Calligraphy), test – wearing Japanese traditional dresses (Yukata) and many other things.
茶道、折り紙、けん玉、たこ焼き、書道、浴衣試着など、様々な日本文化を体験することができました。

Thanks to all the kids, some adults and His Excellency the Japanese Ambassador OYA – san who joined us to do “test - hitting practice”.
試し打ちの練習に参加してくれた子どもたち、大人たち、そして大矢大使、ありがとうございました。

We were very proud to see the audience enjoying our performances.
