A team of passionate students from DAEYANG University has ignited a wave of transformation in SGVH Chiuno, Sub-T/A Ndume, through a powerful research initiative focused on community challenges.
During a feedback session at Chitete School, the students shared findings that exposed urgent issues such as lack of clean water, poor sanitation, early and teenage marriages, and limited access to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services for young people.
The evidence moved leaders to act. District Environmental Health Officer Mr. Dickson Mbewe described the report as a “wake-up call,” urging united action across sectors. Chief SGVH Chiuno pledged to personally lead efforts to improve hygiene by encouraging and even constructing household latrines. Assistant Youth Officer Tione Banda reaffirmed the need for young people to lead development, as they are most affected by these challenges.
To sustain momentum, the students established the Msambafumu Youth Club, linking the community to health and WASH partners a true example of research translating into impact.
As Kasungu District Hospital Youth Corner, we were proud to spice up the event with fun and engaging youth activities, and we also presented the newly formed youth club with recreational gifts including football, netball, and bawo because healthy minds and bodies go hand in hand with development.
Together, we are building stronger, healthier, youth-powered communities
