INSPIRING AFRICANS - FROM WAITRESS TO PILOT
Meet - Precious Sibalo, inspirational Commercial Pilot and former Cabin Crew at Qatar Airways from Plumtree, Zimbabwe. She started off as a waitress and worked her way to her dream profession.

She was raised and schooled in the rural areas in Plumtree and high-density suburb in Magwegwe, Bulawayo.

Her late mother had her at age 17, she was brought up by her grandparents and she wasn't good in mathematics in Secondary School. At age 17, she also had a child and relocated to South Africa cause she could no longer proceed to the University. Upon arriving in South Africa, Precious worked as a waitress, but all this could not stop her from achieving her dream.

โ€œIn South Africa while I was working as a waitress, I worked with excellence. When I was there, customers would see potential in me because I was very optimistic, very jovial person because I believe in the power of the mind."

"I love reading books, I love empowering myself, keep positive because I believe you are the character of your thoughts. So, every time with that in mind, I would work with excellence and my customers would tell me to try many things like modeling. Some of the customers told me to also apply via a website called OVC and apply overseas. So, I worked as a waitress and moved overseas, for over three months I was in Dubai."

"While I was in Dubai I applied for a job at Qatar Airways. Among my six friends who applied for the job, I was the one who was chosen for a job of an air hostess and I moved to Qatar Airways. I worked for five years at Qatar Airways while I was saving money to become a Pilot which was my childhood dream," said Precious Sibalo.

With the help of her friends and family Precious managed to save enough money for her Pilot training and when that was done, she approached Qatar Airways and spoke to them about her dream and they encouraged her and recommended that she enrolls at 43 Air School in South Africa and she never looked back.

Precious Sibalo holds an Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) world's highest level of Aircraft Pilot Licence from 43 Air School, South Africa.

She is currently flying to build hours in South Africa, in an effort to achieve her next goal - flying big planes at Qatar Airways.

"People should never give up on their dreams. I used the job of a waitress as a stepping stone. Some people will always say โ€˜I will never take this jobโ€™. No, take it and use it as a stepping stone. The same waitress job, took me to Dubai and paved the way for my job at Qatar Airways," said Precious Sibalo.

TIPS WHEN LOOKING/ APPLYING FOR A JOB
1. TITLE: Never start your CV with "Curriculum Vitae". Start with your name boldly written with a larger font.

2. PHYSICAL ADDRESS: Ensure the address on your CV is the same with the location of the job. It will make interviewers consider you faster. e.g, if the job is in LILONGWE, apply with a LILONGWE address. If you don't stay in the same location, look for someone you know that uses same location.

3. EMAIL ADDRESS: Don't use childish email address. Use an email address with your name. Don't use email address such as sexybecky4u@gmail.com. It says a lot about your maturity and professionalism. You can use martinphiri@gmail.com. If the name is already taken, add some numbers, e.g martinphiri265@gmail.com

4. PERSONAL INFO: Under personal data or profile. Some entities like date of birth, state and nationality are not compulsory. As a matter of fact, if the age they need doesn't favour you, just take off your date of birth. Keep the interviewer in doubt. Rather sell your skills.

5. EDUCATION BACKGROUND: Under educational background and dates, simply write your school, your course of study and then the year you graduated. Take off the year you got admission. Some people started school in 2005 and graduated in 2012 for a 4-year course. It might not be their fault but employers wouldn't take it that way since you're not there to defend it. So write out only graduation year.

Also, there's no need for your grade (First class, 2.1, 2.2, etc). Just take it off.

6. CERTIFICATIONS: Specific Certifications is another area that's making people lose out of job search in recent times. Under this section, most people don't have what to put and it pi**es off most employers. It means you haven't done much to add value to yourself. If you are a fresh graduate try to do one or two short courses while at university like MS-EXCEL, SPSS, PASTEL, QUICKBOOKS Etc, else you will be submitting what we call a blank CV'. For those working, you can use your weekends to achieve same. It will help you in your next job search.

7. WORK EXPERIENCE: Under your work experience, you are expected to state where you worked, your job designation and your responsibilities. If you are no longer working in the firm, write your responsibilities in past tense. The current place of work can be written in present tense.

8. RELEVANCE: However, all your work experiences need not go on your CV except the one relates to the job you're applying for. it makes your CV concise.

9. REFEREES: Under your referees or references, please you are expected to have your referees name, address, phone number and email address. You can also use your family member as your referee but ensure you don't use the same surname. Also, ensure your referees are aware you are using them as referees.

10. SIMPLICITY: An ideal CV should be in black and white not coloured except on two occasions: if you are applying as a graphic designer and you want to wow your employer or when your CV has the logo of the company you've worked before under your job experience.

11. DON'T FORWARD: Never forward a CV from your inbox to another employer. Open and compose a fresh mail then upload your CV and send.

12. SUBJECT: When sending your CV, make sure the subject carries the job role you are applying for.

13. NAMING: Don't save your CV on your laptop or phone as 'My CV' or Edited CV'. Simple save it with your full name, e.g Charles Lipenga_CV.

14. CONTENT: When sending your CV, don't leave the email page blank. Copy your cover letter and post on the email page. Forget the usual 'Sir, kindly find attached herewith for your....

BECOME EXPECTANT
Remember; You can't be expectant of things you did not conceive (fertilize the potential/ dream).

Hey! It is one thing to desire IT, and it is another to EXPECT IT. How does a woman move from desiring to being EXPECTANT? At that moment of conception, it goes beyond the desiring stage, it is a matter of TIME.

Work hard on laying out the plan for what you desire (dream) today, establish the structure and sow the seed to start the process, reach a paint of declaring, "IT IS NOW JUST A MATTER OF TIME."
