APOSTLE KAWINGA CONTINUES SUPPORTING COMMUNITIES WITH FOOD AND FARMING PROJECTS

Apostle Clifford Kawinga of Salvation for All Ministries International (SFAMI) and owner of Creck Football Club continues to reach out to communities across Malawi through his ongoing humanitarian work.

Every year, Apostle Kawinga distributes maize and food relief to vulnerable families during hard times, including during COVID-19, Cyclone Freddy, and the lean hunger seasons. He says this work is part of sharing the love of Christ and supporting government efforts to fight hunger in the country.

This year, Apostle Kawinga will soon begin his annual maize and food distribution from the end of November through February, reaching various districts across Malawi.

At the same time, he has rolled out the Hope Field Initiative, a programme that empowers local farmers with farming tools and inputs such as fertilizer, seeds, and solar water pumps. The initiative is currently being implemented in Machinga, Chiradzulu, and Thyolo Districts.

In Machinga, seven farmers’ clubs have been formed under Paramount Chief Kawinga, working with Senior Chief Mlomba, TA Nkoola, TA Ngulunya, TA Ntumbwinda, TA Nyambi, and TA Ngokwe.

In Chiradzulu, four clubs have been formed under TA Nkalo, TA Mpunga, and STA Maoni, reaching over 1,000 households, while in Thyolo, two clubs under Senior Chief Nkhwethemule and Senior Chief Mphuka have reached 4,000 households.

All the clubs have each received 10 bags of maize for m'memo (casual workers), 15 hoes, 50 bags of fertilizer, along with farm inputs and solar pumps to boost their farming activities.

Apostle Kawinga said these efforts aim to provide both short-term food relief and long-term empowerment by helping communities become self-reliant through sustainable farming.

HON. MWANAMVEKHA HOLDS HIGH-LEVEL MEETINGS WITH THE WORLD BANK GROUP AND U.S. GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

The Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Honourable Joseph Mwanamvekha, MP, on Friday morning, 17th October 2025, held a series of high-level meetings on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank Group Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C.

Hon. Mwanamvekha first met with Mr. Abebe Selassie, Director of the IMF’s African Department. The meeting focused on Malawi’s macroeconomic priorities, including debt sustainability, inflation management, economic growth, and fiscal deficit reduction.

Mr. Selassie sought to understand Malawi’s reform priorities and the country’s commitment to sound macroeconomic management. In his response, Hon. Mwanamvekha assured the IMF delegation of the Government’s strong political will and reaffirmed that His Excellency, President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, has already initiated fiscal measures to strengthen economic stability. These include minimising unnecessary external and internal travel, promoting virtual meetings and advancing ongoing engagements with bilateral and multilateral partners to restructure and, where possible, cancel portions of debt.

Following his engagement with the IMF Africa Department, the Minister of Finance met with Mr. Eric Meyer, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, who acknowledged the macroeconomic challenges Malawi is facing and reaffirmed continued U.S. bilateral support aimed at cushioning the impact of current economic pressures.

Mr. Meyer noted the adverse effects of post-USAID funding cuts on key sectors, particularly health, and expressed optimism about the resuscitation of U.S. development programmes. He indicated that discussions are underway with the Global Health team to explore renewed support for Malawi’s health sector, focusing on HIV and AIDS, tuberculosis, and related areas.

He further advised the Government of Malawi to continue intensive discussions
