Today, 4th of February, Brain Rest Initiative joins the international community to commemorate World Cancer Day.
The cancer burden is an increasing problem in Africa, with more than 1 million estimated new cancer cases in 2020. Global research estimates that by 2030 there will be a 70% increase in the number of cancer cases in Africa and this is due to population growth, aging, and lifestyle issues.
This year’s campaign theme, “Close the Care Gap”, is about equity in access to cancer care. The gap in cancer care is unreasonably wide and it’s costing lives in Malawi and Across Africa.
Our call to Malawi Ministry of Health and all stakeholders in healthcare and across the cancer control continuum is to reimagine the systems and normalize ease of access to cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Our role at Brain rest is providing psychosocial support which we are committed to.
