I get asked "what cannabis oil is Haleigh on?" at least 7 times a day. I love to answer this question but I figured I could help others who may be too afraid to ask. Let's face it, the cannabis oil community is overwhelming. So many oils to chose from and different types and what can be shipped? Ahhhhh! Hopefully this post will help calm the feelings of insanity for some of you. Others, well... you just might be able to help educate someone one day.
Haleigh takes a CBD oil called Haleigh's Hope. It is the bottle with the red handprints in the picture. Haleigh is the namesake of this strain of CBD. That is not the reason why we tried this oil. The man that spent so many years perfecting this strain of CBD was there when we needed him most. He allowed us to come up and see how he grew the medicine, how he made it into a oil and how it was tested. He also let me know that he was going to continue working as hard as he could to find ways of making the medicine better. That is why we chose this oil. The grower was not going to let us lose HOPE. Haleigh takes 2 drops of CBD oil 3 times a day to help her with her seizures. Now I have heard that people don't think that the CBD oil is working because Haleigh still has seizures. Well it is working because I much rather be dealing with 3-5 seizures on a bad day than 200+. This oil is not a cure. It is a medicine. Just like on medicine there are good days and bad days but I can honestly say that our bad days now are much better than our good days before CBD oil. Yes, you read that right.
Not many know that Marijauna is made up of many different compounds. Haleigh is on 3 different types of these compounds to help her with her seizures, cognition and overall health. Haleigh takes a drop THCa( nonactivated THC) to help with her cognitive abilities. It helps her with her speech, eye contact and focus. All I have to do is rub a drop on her gums and it is like a switch flips on in Haleigh's brain. It is a truly amazing medicine!
Haleigh uses THC (the same compound as THCa but it has been activated changing what it does to help the brain) to help stop a seizure. We used to use a medicine called Diastat (a benzodiapine) that we had to give to Haleigh rectally to stop some of her seizures. It is a very dangerous and highly addictive medicine that would cause Haleigh to stop breathing once given. We have now replaced that awful medicine with one drop of THC rubbed onto Haleigh's gums to stop the prolonged or clustering seizures. No horrible side effects and no trips to the hospital. Can someone please tell me why this medicine is illegal?!?!
Haleigh also uses the CBN compound to help calm and relax her. I used to use it just at night but have found it helps Haleigh during the day. It is supposed to help relax and help people sleep. It didn't help with sleep for Haleigh but did help her to relax. So I now just rub a drop on her gums towards the end of the day to help her relax. This has helped with a lot of seizures that are caused by tummy aches from food or swallowing too much air.
Now the harsh reality. Any of the THC products (THC, THCa, CBN) are very hard to get. They can't be shipped and most states make you have a card to be able to buy them legally. This makes them nearly impossible for most to get. Also, most doctors do not know how to dose these medications because the federal government will not allow for doctors to study it. Many parents and patients are given a starting dose and then left to figure it out on their own. Everyone is different making it hard to figure out what will work best for each person. We were lucky because we lived in a legal state that had doctors who can lead you in the right direction. A lot of trial and error goes into it, but the results are usually simply amazing.
Haleigh has gone from taking 5 different seizure medications (20 pills a day) to 2 (2.5 pills a day) with the help of 6 tiny drops of cannabis oil. Haleigh continues to show the world that this medicine works. That cannabis is medicine! It has helped her find her beautiful smile, learn to sit on her own and find her voice. Let's just hope the federal government will start listening to those without a voice but now have a lot more HOPE for their future.
