Today is Sunday, traditionally a sacred day for rest, yet for many it becomes the day we try to catch up on everything left undone during the week.
For many people, rest is still associated with weakness, lack of productivity, or something that must be “earned” only after exhaustion. Modern culture often praises being constantly busy, overworked, or exhausted, as if this were a sign of commitment, productivity, or success. In this mindset, rest can be seen as not working hard enough.
These beliefs are deeply rooted in our culture, and they often prevent sleep from receiving the priority it deserves.
Sleep Awareness Month offers an opportunity to rethink these assumptions. Rest is not a luxury; it is a biological need, essential for mental health, learning, emotional balance, and long-term wellbeing. Changing how society understands sleep also means challenging the myths that shape how we view rest in our daily lives.
So today, and every day, give yourself permission to rest whenever your body asks for it.
