On the final day of our retreat we drive north along the Sacbé white path towards the coast of Yucatan. When we arrive there, we first visit the pyramid temples of “X’ Cambo” (place of the crocodile), where we meditate together and make offerings. We connect to our ancestors and leave all our fears behind.🙏

Around noon we arrive at the magical “Laguna Rosada” and the salt mines of Xtampú. The water of this lagoon is pink most of the time, but not always. Sometimes, there are flocks of flamingos walking around there. We cleanse our body temple with the special salt from this mine.💧

In the afternoon, we go to a beautiful beach in Telchac to enjoy the crystal-clear waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The Ocean can be flat or with waves depending on weather conditions.

We meditate together in shallow water, immersing ourselves in the energy of the Ocean and appreciating its sounds and birds. We watch the sunset together in peace and harmony. 🙏❤️🙏

We wish all of you a happy and blissful 2024! Now is the time for spiritual healing; the world needs it!

In our retreat, we will honor all four cardinal directions along the Mayan "sacbé" paths and all four elements. On the third day, we will travel south and honor the water element, first at two magical Mayan caves.

In the afternoon, we will visit a wonderful Cenote called “Chihuan.” A Cenote refers to an underground chamber or cave that contains permanent water. In other words, it is a natural sinkhole where the ceiling of the cave has collapsed. The word Cenote, which is pronounced as “seh-no-tay”, is a Spanish conversion of the Yucatec Maya word “D’zonot” or “Ts’onot”.

There are thousands of cenotes on the Yucatan peninsula. The Chihuan Cenote is considered one of the most beautiful and safest. This cenote has its own history. In pre-Hispanic times it was occupied as a refuge during the war between the Cocon groups against Chichén Itzá; during the wars of independence in the year 1800, it was occupied again by indigenous people fleeing from colonial repression. Finally, in 1935, it is known that during the social movements at the time of the revolution and caste war again Chihuan the cenote served as a refuge for its inhabitants in Holcá.

The Chihuan Cenote contains sacred and crystal-clear water of eternal youth. We will perform a deep baptism there for our new path. We'll swim in the cenote and explore the power caves in the south of it. We'll fill little bottles with the sacred water, which you can keep to take home. 🙏💧🙏

Izamal, the center of our retreat, is a small town of about 16’000 inhabitants located in the heart of Yucatan. Its name translates to “dew that falls from the heavens.” It is nicknamed the “Yellow City,” the “City of Hills,” and the “City of Three Cultures,” as it holds the heritage of the ancient Maya, along with Spanish colonial history and today’s modern population.

Izamal has been nominated for the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list, and it is one of Mexico’s “pueblos magicos” (magical villages).

Izamal was founded by “Zamná,” a priest of the god “Itzamná,” around 800 – 600 BC. It became the largest Mayan city of the plains in northern Yucatan, with political and economic power over a vast territory of more than 5’000 square kilometers.

A network of “sacbé” (Mayan white paths) connected Izamal in its center to other important Mayan sites. More than 150 pre-Hispanic structures are cataloged in Izamal.

After the Spaniards conquered Yucatan in the 16th century, they started the construction of a city upon the existing Mayan city. Due to the presence of two enormous structures, it was decided to build a small Christian temple on the great pyramid “Kinich Kak Moo” and a marvelous Franciscan convent on top of a Mayan temple dedicated to “Pap Hol Chak.” This convent received the name of San Antonio de Padua (see image). It is the largest convent in Latin America, dedicated to the Holy Mother Mary.

Today, the Mayan language is still spoken at least as much as Spanish in Izamal. It is the first language in most households. Izamal’s inhabitants preserve their Mayan heritage in many ways. They speak, dress, eat, live, and celebrate according to their traditions.

Izamal has wonderful, light energy due to its historical and religious significance, as well as the cheerfulness of its inhabitants.

Temazcal literally means “house of heat”. It is a sweat lodge that purifies our bodies, minds, and souls. A bonfire is made where volcanic stones are heated, over which a cold infusion of herbs and medicinal ingredients is poured. 🔥🍃🔥

A Temazcal promotes relaxation of the muscular system and relieves pain. Sweating cleanses our bodies of toxins, and it is beneficial for our respiratory system. But a Temazcal is not just a simple steam bath. It is also an inner journey that helps us to reconnect with ourselves for self-healing. This ritual has been applied by the Mayans for many centuries.

Our Temazcal proceeding includes four “doors,” each one with renewed hot stones and herb infusions. After the third door, we exfoliate our bodies with organic chocolate and honey.

The Temazcal session is one of many highlights of the Mayan Secrets Shamanic Retreat. Take a look at our full program at https://spiritualretreats.one/retreat-itinerary/

A "sacbe", is a raised paved road built by the Mayan civilization. Most "sacbe" connect temples, plazas, and groups of structures within ceremonial centers or cities. "Sacbe" is Yucatec Maya for "white road". They were originally coated with white limestone stucco or plaster over a stone and rubble fill.

Four main "sacbe" paths connected the historical Mayan town of Izamal in their center with other important pyramid temples. During our retreat, we travel along these "sacbe" in all four directions to visit these temples, where we meditate, chant, and make offerings to the Mayan ancestors. 🙏❤️🙏
