An afternoon of conversation, connection
 and a little belly art.

When couples understand the baby’s position and the physiology behind each stage of birth, it stops feeling abstract and starts feeling real. Confidence grows from understanding. Knowledge turns sensations into something recognizable, purposeful, and powerful.

Preparation isn’t only about information.
It’s about building confidence.
It’s about understanding what is happening inside the body — before the big day arrives.

I love afternoons like this.

Today is International Mother Language Day.

As an immigrant mother raising children in a country where the everyday language is not my own, this day feels especially meaningful.

It matters to me that my children understand my language. That they can speak with my family.

MThat they know where we come from. Language carries stories, humor, memories, and ways of seeing the world. It carries identity.
It is both their right and mine to share that heritage and to let it live inside our home.

I see many families slowly letting the mother tongue disappear because it feels easier to switch completely to the local language. And sometimes it is easier. But holding on to your mother language as an immigrant is an act of resilience. It is choosing to stay connected to your roots while building a life somewhere new.

Teaching your children your language is not just about vocabulary.

It is about belonging.

Two days ago I attended a birth, and it took me a little time to land after it.

What stayed with me was how present this mother was in every single contraction. It wasn’t about speed or it being her second baby. It was about awareness. She knew what was happening in her body and her mind, and she made decisions from that place, again and again.

She was focused. Determined. Steady.

The final moments moved quickly — faster than any of us expected — and we shifted as fast as we could to hold the space while the baby made his entrance into the world.

And then, after the baby was born, she looked at me and said, “Was that easy? Was it really that easy?”

It wasn’t easy. It was embodied. It was intentional. It was hers.

I stayed with them for a while afterward, just holding the quiet of those first moments as a family of four.

Big congratulations to this beautiful family. I have no doubt they will continue to thrive.

Postpartum support is not a luxury. It’s infrastructure.

When a mother is cared for, she can care without breaking herself. When she has real support, self-care stops being something squeezed into five minutes and becomes something sustainable.
This is what postpartum care should look like — practical, relational, and consistent.

No mother is meant to do this alone.
