Naj Na means mother house in Mayan. This project is a life long dream of Sabrina, traditional community midwife from Tulum. Having learned so much from the Mayan community she feels necessary and urgent to preserve their knowledge and she proposes to do that within a new framework, one of empowering the woman during her mothering processes and awakening the community to the importance of this.
NajNa is a project aimed at preserving Mayan knowledge, medicine, architecture, and agriculture, while empowering women in the community. The project will be led by Sabrina Speich, a traditional midwife and Ismael Aban, a Mayan artist, where they will live and spearhead this community. The project will be owned by the Osa Mayor Foundation and La Cueva de la Partera and La Escuela de Parteras, and its main objective is to create a space that promotes community living based on nurturing and creation, where women can come to give birth and midwives can train.
