💡 WHAT IS REIKI?

Reiki is Energy Medicine (EM), medicine based on physics and not chemistry. Physics is the study of energy, and Chemistry is the study of chemicals. Physics speaks about energy, thus energy medicine, and Chemistry speaks about chemicals, thus chemical medicine. Pharmaceuticals affect the chemical signals of the body while Energy Medicine affects the electromagnetic signals of the body.

Electromagnetic fields are present everywhere in our environment, but are not visible to the naked eye. An electromagnetic field supervises the interactions of a body’s systems, and is faster and more efficient when delivering healing messages, for it is linked with cellular activity, thus when delivering these healing messages they get processed at a cellular level. Energy Medicine works with the electromagnetic field that exists in, through and around the body, and it treats with the understanding that the cause of disease is the disturbance in this electromagnetic field, known as the biofield. A biofield is a field of energy and information that surrounds and interpenetrates a biological entity. This energy is also known as Ch’i or Qi in Chinese, Prana in Sanskrit, and Ki in Japanese.

Reiki is a Japanese hands-on healing art, hands-on healing is the ability to heal through the hands, through touch, touch being an interaction of electromagnetic fields. Reiki is a form of Bioelectromagnetic Medicine. And has been practiced by numerous cultures and peoples for thousands of years, such as the Native Americans who refer to it as Healing Hands, Tibetan, and of course Japanese. The laying on of hands may also be biblically associated with Jesus healing the sick, among many other religions and traditions. Reiki is intrinsically a relaxation technique, which naturally encourages the body’s natural ability to self-heal.

Reiki in Japanese can be broken into two parts: Rei, meaning “Universal,” and Ki, which means “Vital Energy.” Thus, Reiki in English translates to “Universal Vital Energy.”

Reiki is the Universal Vital Energy that flows through and burns in all living beings, the fuel that keeps the body, and all life, in existence and thriving. Reiki as therapy is a natural cure and remedy. Reiki is not a religion, there is no belief system associated with it or needed to be effective. Reiki is science.

PART 2 OF 6

💡 HOW DOES REIKI HEAL?

Through the interaction between electromagnetic fields and biological entities. According to science, the human body in its entirety is made up of over 50 trillion cells, and each cell consists of particles filled with energy. The body is matter, and matter is condensed energy, which is what gives us our weight. Bodies take a certain shape, form, of energy, energy takes the shape, form, of a lizard in a lizard, and energy takes the shape, form, of a human in a human. All living things consist of energy, and get fueled by energy, food! This is why it is so important to eat the healthiest and purest of foods.

Energy, Ki, is constantly flowing through the body, its cells, and its energetic boundaries, meridians and points - this can be visually described as subtle forms of energy that, through a panoramic view, create a flow and current, an electromagnetic field, in and around the body, and if fluent and pure, it maintains the body healthy and strong, and brings an enthusiasm about life. Ki fuels and calibrates our cells to function at their fullest potential, therefore, if the body’s flow and current of Ki is obstructed, it creates a loss of energetic balance, and vulnerability to disease rises.

Ki works in accordance to the psyche. The psyche is energy in the form of thoughts, and depending on their charge, may turn into negative or positive emotions. The adoption of thought, any thought, creates a stagnation and obstructs the flow of Ki. Nature teaches this concept to us through the observance of rivers and ponds, water in a river flows, it is continually running, and this flow and running of water is what keeps the water pure and vibrant - filtration, and on the other hand, water in a pond does not flow, nor does it continually run, the water in a pond is stagnant, and this stagnation is what creates bacteria and decay in the water - contamination.

Stagnations are obstructions to the flow of Ki, which cause vital functions, that keep the physical body healthy, to lose their energetic balance, thus to weaken and the body’s energy to deplete. Only upon the prevention and release of such obstructions will Ki be fluid, keeping and bringing the body's health to its optimum state, which is a pure and vibrant flow of Ki.

The fundamental tools for Reiki are the breath, hands, and music. Deep and slow breaths help reach a state of calm, the practitioner’s hands deliver soothing Ki which the patient’s electromagnetic field interacts with to gain nourishment, and music encourages the mind to a meditative state. Through these tools the practitioner is also assisting the patient reach a state of relaxation, which sets in motion the patient’s body’s natural ability to self-heal.

We feel relaxed when we feel taken care of, nurtured, feeling nurtured makes us feel warmth, and warmth makes the body and its components soft and flexible, this allows energy to move freely and be released from obstructions, which physically manifest as aches, disease, and tensions. The Reiki Master Practitioner can be seen as the Nurture Master Practitioner and Reiki the Nurture Master Energy, and through their assistance and interaction with the patient and the patient’s electromagnetic field, optimum health is encouraged, and if the patient is receptive and willing, this state of optimum health and pure vibrant energy may well be achieved.

PART 3 OF 6

💡 WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A REIKI HEALING SESSION

A Reiki healing session begins with a conversation and questionnaire regarding the patient’s health, what has brought the patient to the healing session, and answers tne patient hopes the Reiki treatment will bring.

Reiki is not a massage, although the practitioner may or may not include a light and/or heavy massage and acupressure to the affected areas in order to bring warmth to, soften and release stagnated energy from, thus rendering the fluidity of Ki.

Reiki is a healing art, intuitive in nature, therefore Reiki experiences may vary visit to visit and from person to person. Reiki is finely tuned to each individual rather than a set machine-like technique that “fits all.”

During a Reiki treatment:
● The patient may lie on a massage table, a blanket on the floor, or sits on a chair if preferred
● The patient remains fully clothed except for shoes, jewelry, belt, and any heavy adornments
● A comforting environment is created which includes a comfortable and quiet space, meditation music, light burning of sage, pillow, and blanket
● The patient closes eyes and takes deep and slow breaths
● The practitioner gently hovers, moves, and places hands over different parts of the body at different distance ranges
● Experiences of temperature and other sensations may be felt in/on the body and through the practitioner’s hands such as hot and/or cold sensations, tingling sensations, light shocks, light chills, sweating and gas
● Emotions and memories may emerge to be released such as crying, sobbing, and stored traumas
● Reiki works fully whether sensations are felt or not
● Reiki treatments are finely tuned from individual to individual, giving a ranging time of 5min-2hrs, although the usual range time is 45min-1.5hrs
● Falling asleep is very common
● Lightheadedness may occur, thus the practitioner suggests and dedicates a period of 5min of rest before coming back to full awareness
● After the 5min of rest, the practitioner provides the patient a glass of water to drink and get grounded
● At the end, the patient has a new opportunity to ask questions, speak about the experience, and ground any new awareness

The Reiki Master Practitioner is intuitively guided to facilitate the flow of Ki, such facilitations may include dietary suggestions, exercise suggestions, soothing words, words of wisdom, etc.

PART 4 OF 6

💡 LONG-DISTANCE REIKI

Presence, place, is no hindrance for Reiki, for Ki is omnipresent, found in all places at all times. Reiki treatments may be performed long-distance, through an arrangement of time between patient and practitioner. The fundamental tools for long-distance Reiki treatments are the arts of intention and visualization. In order to have the visualization, mental image, of who the patient is, thus of who to direct and project Ki energy to, the practitioner may need and ask for a photo of the patient.

The patient arranges a comforting setting as close as the practitioner would have if the treatment had been in person, this includes a comfortable and quiet space, paired with meditation music, preferably nature sounds, and the lighting of sage or a natural smelling incense, the natural incense smells that I recommend are patchouli, white sage, and jasmine. At the arranged time, the patient may choose to lie on a bed, a blanket on the floor, or sit on a chair, then proceeds and closes the eyes, breathes deeply and slowly, thus reaching a state of relaxation, which naturally sets in motion the body’s natural ability to self-heal.

The practitioner simultaneously tunes in at the arranged time, in an equally comforting setting, and uses the patient’s photo to form a mental image of the patient and mentally visualizes the Reiki treatment and procedure. Just like during an in-person Reiki treatment, the Reiki Master Practitioner holds the intention to assist the patient’s healing process, and proceeds to mentally visualize, direct and project Ki onto the patient, which the patient, through its biofield, receives and interacts with to gain nourishment. This is what some consider the power of prayer.

Please see PART 3, “WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A REIKI HEALING SESSION,” for further details on the setting and procedure of a Reiki treatment.

Detoxifying side effects usually last 1-3 days. Drink plenty of water to help flush the toxins being released, and to help direct the body’s energy flow. Eat nourishing foods and avoid the over consumption of stimulants such as sugar, caffeinated drinks, alcoholic beverages, and recreational drugs. Spend time alone to get familiar with the new changes taking effect, rest as needed, relax, and most importantly remain kind of your healing journey.
