Anna (she/her) is a Queer Filipina Full-Circle Birthworker with a practice rooted in radical care and queer reproductive justice.

This space is committed to amplifying QTBIPOC+ voices and the decolonization of birthwork and beyond. Anna supports birthing folks and families in birth, postpartum, abortion, miscarriage, and loss. She believes in providing gender affirming and trauma informed care for all folks in their reproductive journeys. She takes care in understanding that there is anti-racism, anti-oppression, and anti-colonialism work to be upheld in all facets of birth and beyond and commits to learning, unlearning, and relearning to make sure any space you share with her will be radical, inclusive, and affirming. Anna offers services in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) as well as Guelph. Virtual support, classes, and workshops are also available for folks looking for more information at this time during COVID-19. All services and offerings are on a sliding scale. ✨🎉🫶🏽 Happy 6 years to Pocket Doula!

Yesterday, our little PD officially turned into a first grader 🥲 The last time I celebrated PD’s birthday, it was when it turned 3 and now fast forward 3 years, I can’t believe how much has changed.

I am forever grateful for the support of folks in this little corner of the internet who have been with PD! There’s some of you who have been with me all 6 years and WOAH thank you. Seriously. There’s some of you who are new to me since last week and WOAH thank YOU! Seriously. I hope you’ve been amused by my silly posts, curiosities, and forever rants. There will be more to come (threat).

Over the past couple of years, I’ve been quieter and quieter on Pocket Doula and it has made me realize that I miss the connections I’ve made within this sphere. I think I have an idea of how to balance both screen world and real world time - I understand now that there’s a merit to both. Though I much prefer inviting folks over irl for a cup of tea or meeting at the park to chat about the latest hot gossip, I’m slowly re-emerging back into the World Wide Web. (Eep)

All to say - I will need all y’alls help lol. If you have an inkling that my screen time has brought upon burnout into my life, please nudge me (u can be rude u have my consent) to log off. After all, it takes a village.

PS: that last slide was me trying to film a cute little sparkler moment but then I realized the sparkler was backwards AND the sparks flew too close to my face and I got scared omg anyway ENJOY

What a beautiful evening celebrating at the launch of Reproduction: Death, Birth, & The Turkey Baster Method.

My favourite part of the night was hearing Ellie read a an excerpt of her book where she shares her experience navigating q***r fertility while also navigating the deaths of her parents. As someone who is grieving my dad in the midst of my fertility journey, this book really hit home for me.

Thank you so much to .kitchener for inviting me to be the moderator during the fireside chat! It was so sweet to spend an evening meeting our neighbours and, of course, celebrating the joy of building our q***r families.

Congratulations once again Ellie! 💓🌈✨🦃

A necessary pit stop during out east coast road trip that Ellis and I took from Ontario all the way to Nova Scotia! 🦞

I was so excited to find a copy of Conceivable at Venus Envy - a bookstore that is q***r + trans owned and run in Halifax! Always such a wild ride to see my name as a collaborator for one of the chapters 😭

Dear PM and the government of Canada - hear this and hear us clearly, under Canada’s watch and the rest of the world, Israel has carried out a genocide on Palestine.

Canadians have never been in support, and now we speak out with a unified voice to demand:
End all arms trade to Israel NOW.
Stop supporting Israel in its genocide of Palestine NOW.
And seek justice for Palestinians NOW.

We will continue to speak out until Palestine is free and Israel is held accountable in the international courts for its crimes against humanity.

It’s officially been a whole year without you, dad.

I’ve found out that since your death, talking about you has become one of my most favourite things to do. When people ask me about you I talk about how clever I think you are, how funny you can be - and even laugh when I tell them that I thought it was your last joke to pull to peace out on Father’s Day of all days.

I remember when I found out about your death my first thought was “of course he would dip on Father’s Day”. I laughed about it then in between tears and I laugh about it now still in between tears.

I’m glad that in the last few years before you passed, I really got to know you. I’m glad for all the messages we sent back and forth where telling you “I love you” was the easiest thing. I’m glad I’m glad I’m glad you knew how I much I loved you. I’m glad I’m glad I’m glad I told you often.

You weren’t a perfect person, but you were a perfect dad. I never doubted how much you loved me or Bea. Even through all of the years I was angry with you, you gave me that space to figure it out and loved me through it all. Even now though you’re gone I can feel your warmth wrapped around me. It feels like the many times you carried me from the car to my bed even knowing I was pretending to be asleep.

I miss you and I love missing you because it reminds me of how much you mean to me.

Happy d(e)addiversary, daddy-o. I hope you like all the dead dad memes I send you 😂 actually, I know you do because I can hear you laughing with me and if you were able to send me dead dad memes back I know you would in a heartbeat (even tho u dont have one anymore) 💋

obvi still out here yappin’ and giving my 2 cents about doulas - particularly the conversation around regulating doula work 👀

the concerns are real - would I like for us to have access to benefits and be widely available to be claimed as an expense by clients who have the privilege of insurance? yes.

do I have a whole host of concerns with what regulation brings when it comes to practicing with political integrity and accountability? bigger yes.

kamusta! ako si Anna and for those who don’t know me - I’m a q***r Filipina birthworker who is yelling about reproductive justice, q***r liberation, and the perils of existing in late stage capitalism.

I admit it feels very weird to be announcing myself and my services on this specific platform that continues to marginalize voices like my own, but if anything this is a call to show how proud I am of the work we do in repro care and the ways I want to continue supporting our collective efforts to keep this work mobilized. I’m glad y’all are here with me.
