The final day commenced with an in-depth discussion on the progress of interlaboratory comparisons, led by the coordinating laboratories. Proposals for new interlaboratory comparisons were also presented, addressing issues related to air pollution.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Hai Wu, Chair of the Gas Analysis Working Group, presented the group’s strategy for 2025–2030. The strategy focuses on developing high-accuracy, SI-traceable gas reference materials for carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and carbon monoxide, with the aim of reducing uncertainties to meet the compatibility goals of the World Meteorological Organization’s Global Atmosphere Watch (WMO-GAW).

Following the discussions, participants visited the Gas Laboratory at NMIM, guided by Dr. Mohamad Fauzi and Mr. Mohammad Khairul.

The day concluded with an industry visit to Air Products factory where participants gained valuable insights into their gas filling operations and safety. Our sincere thanks to Air Products for their warm hospitality.

As we bid farewell to this enriching event, we leave with valuable knowledge, new connections, and memorable experiences from these three impactful days. Heartfelt appreciation goes to all speakers, NMIs, participants, and organizers for making this event a success. Until we meet again!

Day 2 – 2025 APMP/Focus Group Workshop on Climate Change and Clean Air/ 22nd Workshop of APMP/TCQM Gas Analysis 🌍✨

Day 2 of the 2025 APMP/Focus Group Workshop on Climate Change and Clean Air/ 22nd Workshop of APMP/TCQM Gas Analysis built on the momentum from the previous day, focusing on cutting-edge analytical methods, advanced calibration strategies, and quality assurance practices in gas measurement.

The sessions began with comprehensive updates on gas metrology activities from National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) across the region, including NMIM (Malaysia), KRISS (Korea), NMIJ (Japan), CERI (Japan) NIMT (Thailand), VNIIM ( Russia), UzNIM (Uzbekistan), and ITRI (Chinese Taipei) highlighting current projects, technological developments, and future plans. Experts presented case studies demonstrating innovative applications in environmental monitoring and industrial processes, emphasizing the direct link between accurate gas measurements and environmental sustainability.

Poster presentations provided a platform for sharing ongoing research, sparking valuable discussions between seasoned experts and university researchers.

Chaired by Dr. Hai Wu from NIM, China in the morning and Dr. Mohamad Fauzi from NMIM Malaysia in the afternoon, the sessions maintained an engaging pace and open dialogue.

As Day 2 concluded, participants left inspired — armed with actionable ideas, stronger networks, and a unified commitment to advancing the science of gas measurement for accuracy, reliability, and lasting impact.

Day 1 – 2025 APMP/Focus Group Workshop on Climate Change and Clean Air/ 22nd Workshop of APMP/TCQM Gas Analysis 🌏✨

The opening day of the 2025 APMP/Focus Group Workshop on Climate Change and Clean Air/ 22nd Workshop of APMP/TCQM Gas Analysis event, hosted by NMIM Malaysia, began with a powerful mix of urgency and optimism, gathering government agencies, industry leaders, and researchers under one roof to address climate change and promote the right to clean air.

The programme opened with welcoming remarks from NMIM Chief Metrologist, Dr. Faridah Hussain, who highlighted the importance of collaborative actions, innovative metrology practices, and knowledge exchange in building sustainable solutions for the region and beyond.

Keynote presentations delivered valuable insights on carbon reduction strategies, advanced metrology practices, isotopic fingerprinting, the role of nitrous oxide and hydrogen in clean air initiatives, and the latest updates from the Focus Group on Climate Change & Clean Air (FGCCCCA).

Interactive workshops encouraged active engagement, allowing participants to share experiences and forge new partnerships. The sessions were chaired by Dr. Hong Lin from NIM, China in the morning and Dr. Fuu Ming Kai from A*STAR, Singapore in the afternoon.

A standout moment was the sharing of real-world success stories from across the Asia-Pacific region, showing how collaborative action leads to tangible results. The atmosphere was dynamic, filled with energy, knowledge exchange, and a shared sense of responsibility.

Day 1 concluded with a renewed commitment to turning awareness into measurable action because together, we can combat climate change and safeguard clean air for generations to come.

We are pleased to share that Nurul Farhana binti Mohd Fakri and Nurfarhana Nabila binti Ridzuan, representing the National Metrology Institute of Malaysia (NMIM), have successfully completed the Asia-Pacific Metrology Summer School, hosted by the National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) NIMT at the Miracle Grand Convention Hotel in Bangkok from 4 to 8 August 2025. This intensive, intermediate-level course focused on Electricity Measurement, encompassing AC-DC Transfer Measurement, DC Resistance, and Impedance, delivered through a purposeful blend of expert lectures and practical workshops.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the exceptional trainers whose guidance was instrumental to the program’s success: Dr. Yasutaka Amagai (NMIJ), Dr. Dong-Hun Chae (KRISS), Dr. Sivinee Sawatdiaree, Dr. Monthol Homklintian (supported by Mrs. Natenapit Khumthukthit, Dr. Jutarat Thanarom, and Miss Tanunya Klauytong), Dr. Yaowaret Pimsut (supported by Mr. Kongsak Tongboon and Mr. Chutipong Tum), and Dr. Chaiwat Jessadajin (assisted by Miss Noppawan Tipkanon, Mrs. Natenapit Khumthukthit, and Miss Kanyaporn Ketton).

A special note of gratitude goes to NIMT Thailand for orchestrating such a rich and impactful educational experience that reinforces regional metrology excellence. Congratulations to our participants. Your dedication and newly acquired expertise will significantly enhance NMIM’s measurement capabilities and contribute meaningfully to the broader metrology community.

On 2 August 2025, NMIM successfully increased Malaysia’s total number of Calibration and Measurement Capabilities (CMCs) with the publication of 6 new CMCs in the field of Temperature: Liquid-in-glass thermometers covering the range from -80 °C to 300 °C and 2 CMCs in the field of Chemistry: Ethanol in aqueous solution for the range of 0.5 mg/g to 5 mg/g and Methane in Nitrogen, covering the range from 10.51 µmol/mol to 5.00E5 µmol/mol; in the International Bureau of Weights and Measures Key Comparison Database (BIPM KCDB).

The 145 CMCs currently published for Malaysia in the BIPM KCDB—spanning a broad range of fields and offering the smallest uncertainties—together with additional CMCs currently in the pipeline, play a crucial role in strengthening the national metrology infrastructure and act as a key foundation for eliminating measurement-related Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT).
