There’s been a lot of discussion lately about the price of spectacles in Malaysia.🇲🇾

But here’s what many people don’t see 👇

Optometrists aren’t salespeople.
They are trained eye care professionals.

Behind every pair of glasses is:
✔️ A full eye examination
✔️ Years of training and clinical judgement
✔️ Material cost & diagnostic equipments
✔️ High operating and rental costs
✔️ Responsibility for your long-term vision

As an ophthalmologist,
I work closely with optometrists every day.

We complement each other.
We serve the same goal, to protect your eye health.

Let’s support ethical, professional eye care.
Because good vision is priceless!

🙏 To my optometrist friends, this one’s for you.
I hope more people understand your contribution!

This is one of the most common questions my patients ask
and also one of their biggest concerns.

🚗 Can I drive after cataract surgery?

The short answer?
Safety always comes first.

After cataract surgery, many patients want to drive
but not everyone should do it immediately.

Here’s what I usually explain in clinic:

✔️ Do NOT drive on the day of surgery
Your vision may still be blurry and your reaction time reduced. Arrange someone to pick you up!

✔️ Only drive when you feel confident
If signs, distance, or oncoming cars don’t feel right, please wait for some time!

✔️ One eye done means adjustment time
Your brain needs time to adapt, especially if the other eye hasn’t been operated. Image size may be different on both eyes and fusion maybe be hard for some.

✔️ Night driving may feel challenging at first
Glare or halos can still occur early on.

✔️ Follow your doctor’s advice
Recovery speed differs from person to person.

There’s no rush.
A few extra days of caution is far better than risking an accident.

I hope this video helps you better understand
the safety aspects of driving after cataract surgery.

I’m not joking But people skip eye checks for years,
until something feels wrong.

Here’s why you shouldn’t wait 👇

🔹 Most eye diseases are silent
Glaucoma, early diabetic retinopathy, retinal problems, no pain, no warning.

🔹 Good vision ≠ healthy eyes
You can see “fine” and still have serious issues inside.

🔹 Early detection = simple treatment
Late detection = complicated, stressful, sometimes irreversible.

🔹 Eye checks aren’t scary
No needles. No pain. Mostly just lights, lenses, and blinking. Most importantly your doctors are nice!

🔹 Your eyes age faster than you think
Especially with screens, diabetes, high blood pressure, or family history.

🔹 One check can save years of vision
30–45 minutes. That’s all it takes.

🔹 If you are above 40 years old and never checked your eyes before yet
This video is the sign to book your appointment

So yes…
Sometimes you don’t invite someone for an eye check.
You drag them because you care. 😌

“After Cataract Surgery: Questions My Patients Always Ask”
Episode 2: Can I shower after cataract surgery? 🚿👁️

This is one of the most common questions I hear after surgery.

The short answer?
👉 Yes… but with care.

After cataract surgery, your wound is tiny and self-sealing,
but the first few days are still important for healing.

Here’s what I usually tell my patients:

✅ You may shower or bathe from the next day
🚫 Avoid getting water or shampoo directly into the eye
👁️ Keep your eye closed when washing your face or hair
🧼 No eye rubbing even if it feels itchy
😴 Use the protective eye shield if advised

Why the caution?
Because water isn’t sterile and infection, although rare, can be serious.

Good news?
If you’re careful, bathing will not affect your surgery outcome at all.

This new series is all about answering the questions patients are often too shy to ask.
