Let’s talk about one of the trickiest skin issues I deal with in clinic:
Pigmentation — especially melasma.
Yes, that stubborn, sneaky patch that just won’t leave.
And the truth is… melasma can’t really be “cured.”
What we aim for in treatment is lightening and stabilizing.
No matter how good the protocol is,
I would never promise perfect results —
Because the causes behind pigmentation?
So complex, so unpredictable… and way beyond what a laser can fix alone.
Besides medical treatments, the skin is also influenced by:
• Your sleep and stress levels
• Hormonal changes (pregnancy, menopause, birth control)
• Skincare routine (especially hydration and sun protection)
• Age, mood, lifestyle —
You name it. They all play a part.
So sometimes, it’s not the treatment that’s not working —
It’s just that your melasma is living in its own K-drama.

Unlike acne, where I can be more aggressive,
when treating pigmentation, I always go slow and safe.
Because once you use the wrong laser, wrong settings, or wrong diagnosis…
That pigment can go even deeper —
And make both the doctor and the patient depressed.
That’s why I never rely on lasers alone.
I almost always combine it with injectables or oral treatments —
To help repair the skin barrier and regulate melanin production from the inside out.

So if melasma is already considered a challenge in the hands of medical professionals…
Please be extra cautious when seeking “quick fixes” from non-medical sources.
Sometimes you think you’re removing pigment —
But instead, you’re just inviting more friends to the party.
