Afternoon cravings done right in Kluang, Johor.
Wok fried Char Kway Teow bursting with wok hei, smoky Muar otak-otak fresh off the grill, and a chilled young coconut to beat the heat.
This humble combo always hits the spot, flavourful, nostalgic, and straight from my go-to place in town.

Some things don’t need fixing, they just need repeating

Mee Kolo Duck / Bebek with a bowl of hearty beef broth, side of cucur pusuk (anchovy fritters), and an iced tonic espresso

Had this a few days ago and was excited to dig into their version of mee kolo bebek. Thought it was going to be a proper braised duck in spices, but turns out it was smoked duck, still tasty, just not what I expected.

Would love if they did the duck the same way they cook their beef rich, slow-braised, deeply flavored. That would really make this a standout!

- Noodles were a bit overcooked this time, so they missed that signature springy bite.
- Cucur pusuk had a nice crunch, but could use more anchovy kick.
- The iced tonic espresso, though bright, refreshing, and absolutely on point!

On the bright side, love the concept....
smoked duck + kolo noodles is creative! Just hoping next time the noodles are perfectly al dente, the duck slices more generous, and the fritter flavors sharper.

A quiet afternoon at Bonne Bouche Café, Kluang, turned into a memorable foodie moment.
I ordered their 250g Australian Ribeye, medium donenes, a classic pairing with sautéed mixed vegetables and rich black pepper sauce. When I sliced into the steak, it leaned more towards rare. I gently showed it to the staff, and to my pleasant surprise, they took it back without hesitation.
Not only was it recooked to perfection, they returned the dish with extra vegetables, a thoughtful gesture that truly elevated the experience.
It’s these little touches that make dining out feel personal. And that steak? Juicy, flavourful, worth every bite.
