When you’re skiing, your body is focused on balance and control.
The pain often begins only after the skis come off.
🙅 This doesn’t always mean injury. It’s often the body responding to unfamiliar, high-intensity effort.
🧠 Pain management isn’t about pushing through.
It’s about keeping pain within a manageable range.
The ONE step is simple:
👉 Keep your body moving—safely.

💊 Light activity
✔ Gentle stretching
✔ Encourage circulation, not complete rest
👉 When pain stays within a level that still allows movement and rest, recovery can truly begin.
Pain management isn’t about eliminating pain, but about not letting pain take control, or affecting your quality of life, or delay your recovery after sports.

You might think general anesthesia is like what you see in movies—
everything slowly fading, eyelids getting heavier, and then drifting into sleep.
But anyone who has actually undergone surgery knows this:
general anesthesia is nothing like sleep.

When you sleep, you can still hear sounds, dream, or feel yourself turning over.
Under general anesthesia, there is complete loss of awareness.

One moment, you may still be talking to the doctor.

The next, your mind simply goes black—like a screen shutting off.
When you wake up again, the surgery is already over.

What happens in between?
No sound.
No dreams.
No sensation.

That stretch of time feels as if it has been erased from memory.

This state of total unawareness is almost identical to death — with one crucial difference: you wake up.

Some people report dreaming or hearing voices under anaesthesia.

In reality, these are fragments of confusion as the brain regains consciousness after surgery.

Modern anaesthesia blocks memory pathways rapidly; even if the body reacts, the mind does not record it.

And during surgery, the person truly guarding your life is the anaesthetist.

If the anaesthetist is calmly seated, the surgeon operates with confidence.
If they suddenly stand up, something serious is happening.

Anaesthesia is not just giving a drug and walking away.

Once you are fully anesthetized, you cannot maintain your own breathing, blood pressure, or vital functions. The anesthesiologist takes over, completely. They took over monitoring oxygen, heart rate, blood pressure, brain activity, temperature, urine output, every second.

Machines may alarm, but to act or react, when and how, is solely on the anaesthetist.

That’s why we say:
The surgeon treats the disease.
The anaesthetist guards the life.

In yesterday’s session with media I was asked:
“There’s a big fear of “not waking up” after being put to sleep.”
It was plain the interviewee had done his homework well.
“What if I don’t wake up after being put to sleep?” - I get this all the time.
As a pain management doctor, I understand where this fear comes from. When anesthesia is involved, you’re handing over control — and that feels frightening.
What many people don’t realize is this: modern anesthesia is not a switch that’s turned on and left unattended. It is continuously monitored, adjusted, and supervised every second by trained anesthesiologists. Your breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels — nothing is left unchecked.
👀 I am the eye
👂 The ear
🫀 The heart
🫁 The lung
🫘The kidney
Once patient sleeps, I am everything until they wake up.
Remember, the goal of anesthesia is not to “knock you out.” It’s to keep you safe, comfortable, and stable while treatment happens.
Fear is normal. Questions are welcome.
And part of my job is to make sure you don’t walk into treatment carrying that fear alone.

There are days in my practice that leave a quiet ache in my chest.
Not when pain is severe, but when I hear, “I’ve been living with this for years.”

By the time some patients sit across from me, their pain has already changed the way they move, sleep, work, and live.

And often, it wasn’t because help wasn’t available, but because they were told to wait, to endure, to be “strong,” or they feared what seeking treatment might mean.

Pain slowly takes things away.
First comfort.
Then confidence.
Then parts of life you didn’t realize you were surrendering.

What breaks my heart is knowing that many of these journeys could have been gentler... that relief didn’t have to come so late.

Pain is not something you need to prove you can tolerate.
And asking for help is never failure.
If I could change one thing, it would be this: don’t wait until pain defines your life before you let us help.

We often hear about tennis elbow, and occasionally about golfer’s elbow — but do you know how to tell these two conditions apart?
First of all, Golfer's Elbow IS Not the same as Tennis Elbow 🙅‍♀️
Golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylitis) and tennis elbow are often confused, but they affect different SIDES of the elbow.
💡 Tennis elbow causes pain on the outer elbow
💡 Golfer’s elbow causes pain on the inner elbow
Both are caused by overuse, but involve different tendons and movement patterns.
✍️ Cause → Effect
Golfer’s elbow occurs when repetitive gripping, lifting, or wrist flexion places repeated stress on the tendons attached to the inner elbow. Over time, this leads to:
⭕ Tendon micro-injury
⭕ Inflammation or degeneration
⭕ Inner elbow pain, weakness, and reduced grip strength
It doesn’t only affect golfers — it’s common in people who type, lift weights, use tools, or perform repetitive hand movements.
🧑‍⚕️ When should you see Dr. Aldred Soo?
Here are some signs that you should not wait any longer — your pain can be effectively managed:
⭕ Pain lasting more than a few weeks
⭕ Pain affecting work, sports, or sleep
⭕ Symptoms not improving with rest or basic treatment
Remember, early assessment helps prevent the condition from becoming chronic. The Pain Specialist, Dr. Aldred Soo focuses on accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment, not just symptom suppression. Care may include:
✅ Precise clinical assessment
✅ Image-guided injections to reduce inflammation and pain
✅ Advice on rehabilitation and activity modification
The aim / goal is to reduce pain, restore function, and support tendon healing.
❓Can golfer’s elbow be cured?
In many cases, yes — with appropriate treatment and rehabilitation. However, for more persistent cases, treatment helps manage pain while supporting recovery, rather than simply living with the condition.

During awake surgery, the patient remains conscious so the medical team can continuously monitor brain function and safety in real time.
In Dr. Aldred Soo’s operation, the patient was asked to sing “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” — a simple but powerful way to confirm speech, awareness, and neurological function throughout the procedure.
Staying awake isn’t about bravery alone; it’s about precision, safety, and protecting what matters most.
