Our Story
Tung Shin Hospital (formerly known as Pooi Shin Tong) is a 247-bedded charitable community hospital founded in 1881 by Kapitan Yap Kwan Seng. It turned into a Not-for-profit organization in 1894 and it is currently governed by a group of passionate philanthropists, a dedicated team of medical specialists and healthcare professionals.
Tung Shin Hospital started as a clinic with 2 Traditional Chinese Medicine consultants that provided medical treatment and funeral expenses to the poor and needy. However, to cater to the needs of the community, Tung Shin Hospital started to roll out its Western Medical Services in 1985. This has set Tung Shin Hospital apart from other hospitals being one of the hospitals that provides comprehensive Western and Traditional Chinese Medical Services for patients.
