Betrayal trauma happens when the person you have fully trusted for emotional support, safety, survival, or even basic needs, has betrayed and violated your sense of confidence and trust in a significant manner. This psychological wound can trigger unique symptoms that can profoundly impact your mental health 😔

Your brain may unconsciously develop "betrayal blindness", which is a protective mechanism that temporarily blocks awareness of betrayal to maintain essential relationships. By preserving the relationship and forgetting the harmful behaviour, it often leads to self-blame, where you may internalize the blame, which can harm you in the long run ❤️‍🩹

The science behind betrayal trauma shows it is surprisingly common and can have long-lasting effects. The common forms of betrayal are:-
🔸Sharing private information or secrets
🔸Breaking promises or commitments
🔸Taking advantage of someone's trust
🔸Spreading harmful gossip
🔸Suddenly ending relationships without explanation
🔸Withholding help during difficult times

Women report higher rates of betrayal trauma than men, with more pronounced PTSD symptoms, particularly in how they re-experience the traumatic events.

Here are the definitions of betrayal trauma, symptoms of betrayal trauma, causes of betrayal trauma, and how to heal from betrayal trauma 🌿

Understanding betrayal trauma marks the first step toward healing. It is important to seek professional help from a mental health professional to better understand your experiences or support someone who might be suffering from this specific form of psychological injury 🧠🌷

Personality Mirroring is defined as imitating or copying another person’s behaviours, characteristics, or traits 🎭

Mirroring occurs when individuals with Personality Disorders have a vacant or distorted self-image, which can manifest itself as an imitation of another individual’s behaviours, dress style, hairstyle, mannerisms, speech, purchase preferences, or even daily habits 🫨

To understand more regarding the extreme manifestations of this behavior, the individual carrying out the mirroring action might start to believe that they are the other person that they are imitating, to the extent they might call themselves by their name, claim to be them, or even ‘borrow’ elements of the other person’s life such as relationships, friendships, past experiences, career, business strategies, school assignments, or even family history and claim these as their own.

Personality mirroring likely stems from a desire for social acceptance, something that everyone can relate to. As such, you might opt to see it and the person behind it with a kind eye – especially if that person is you.

Here are the examples of mirroring, and with pros and cons:-
🔷Pros
🌷Social interactions
🌷Fitting In

🔷Cons
🌷Unintended repulsion
🌷Selling trust

The desire to connect can be very authentic and positive manner, even if we sometimes go about it through somewhat artificial or deliberate means. However, the down side of mirroring others can go backfire and people can perceive you as not genuine and being unable to trust you 🫥

If you are feeling concerned and distressed that you or a loved one may have signs of personality mirroring, it is essential to seek professional help 🧠🌷
