🧠 HOW TO IDENTIFY ISSUES WITH INTEROCEPTIVE SENSORY PROCESSING?
Interoception is our internal “body radar”—it tells us when we're hungry, tired, thirsty, or in pain.
But for some children, this sense doesn’t function as expected. Here's how it might look:
🔴 Avoidance
🚫 Refuses to eat, drink, exercise, or participate in activities that raise body awareness.
🟣 Overresponsivity
😰 Panics with minor body changes (e.g., feeling slightly hungry or warm).
😣 Overreacts to common sensations like being tired or full.
🟢 Seeking
🍔 Eats/drinks excessively.
💪 Pushes body to extremes or enjoys breath-holding/spinning.
🦶 May self-induce pain or stimulation.
⚫ Underresponsivity
😐 Appears disconnected from body needs.
❓ Might not notice when they’re hurt, hungry, or need the toilet.
💡 When kids struggle with interoception, they may also struggle to manage emotions or behaviors because they don't fully feel their body cues.
📌 Save this to understand your child’s sensory world a little better!
