To every parent waiting for help... I see you. ❤️

It is hard when you notice your child is not talking like other kids yet. It is even harder when you call for a speech therapist and they tell you: "The wait is very long, weeks or months!"

I know you might feel worried or helpless. You just want to hear your child’s voice.

But please remember: You are doing a great job. You are your child’s first teacher. You are their favorite person to play with. You don’t have to be a speech therapist to help them—you just have to be their mom or dad.

While you wait for your appointment, you can start helping at home today. I have a list of 22 pre-speech therapy fun activities you can do together. They are just simple games and ways to play that help your child learn to communicate.

⚠️3 MITOS JAUNDIS BAYI: JANGAN SAMPAI TERLEKA⚠️
Sebagai doktor, saya kerap dengar bermacam-macam petua “turun-temurun” untuk rawat kuning bayi. Tapi tahukah anda, sesetengah mitos ini boleh melambatkan rawatan yang sepatutnya?
Jom kita semak 3 mitos popular ini:
1️⃣“ Jemur bawah matahari boleh hilangkan kuning.”
Fakta: Cahaya matahari tidak cukup efektif untuk memecahkan bilirubin, malah berisiko buat bayi kena strok haba atau dehidrasi. Bayi perlukan phototherapy khas di hospital jika tahap kuning tinggi.
2️⃣“ Bagi bayi minum air masak atau susu kambing.”
Fakta: Usus bayi bawah 6 bulan belum sedia untuk air lain selain susu ibu/formula. Susu kambing boleh menyebabkan beban pada buah pinggang bayi. Susu ibu adalah yang terbaik untuk bantu bayi membuang bilirubin melalui najis.
3️⃣“ Mandi air kucai atau mandian herba petua paling mujarab?”
Fakta: Sebenarnya, kuning itu berada di dalam darah, bukan sekadar di atas kulit. Jadi, mencuci kulit bayi dengan apa-apa jenis air herba sekalipun tidak akan dapat menarik keluar bilirubin tersebut. Cara terbaik untuk singkirkan kuning adalah melalui penyusuan yang kerap supaya bayi lebih banyak membuang. Lagipun, kita risau kulit bayi yang mulus tu terkena ruam atau alergik nanti!

There's a recent outbreak of ☘️Norovirus ☘️ in a local kindergarten for norovirus. Parents started to ask prevention and possible symptoms of this unfamiliar virus.

Norovirus also known as Norwalk virus spreads very rapidly in a closed environment, just like many other viruses. The route of transmission is via fecal-oral route or accidental touching contaminated surfaces.

Children may present with symptoms as shown above (vomit, diarrhea, abdominal pain, body aches and fever) within 12-48 hours of contacting the virus. Some children may experience more severe symptoms and risk of dehydration. However, the symptoms normally improved within 72 hours.

The gold standard of preventing Norovirus is still via good old proper handwashing with soap and water. Alcohol hand sanitiser is not very good against Norovirus. The surfaces that is suspected to have the virus is recommended to be cleaned via diluted bleach, roughly about 5-10ml in 500ml of water (do ChatGPT for further details)

Children can return to their kindergarten or daycare after 48hours of symptoms resolved, meaning if child stopped vomiting or diarrhea for more than 48hours. However, family members must be careful as the virus can still be with the child for next 1-2 weeks, but less infective.

诺如病毒，也称诺瓦克病毒，在封闭环境中传播非常迅速，就像许多其他virus病毒一样。

孩子在症状消失48小时后可以回到幼儿园或托儿所，这意味着孩子如果停止呕吐或腹泻超过48小时即可。然而，家人需小心，因为病毒仍可能在孩子体内存在1-2周，但传染性已较低。
