WHY AMOXICILLIN IS COMBINED WITH CLAVULANIC ACID (AUGMENTIN) 💊

Some bacteria species are very smart ,and they show resistance to amoxicillin, rendering it ineffective.

This is due to the fact that they produce an enzyme called beta-lactamase that breaks down the beta-lactam ring in amoxicillin, thereby destroying the antibiotic and making the drug useless.

To solve this problem, clavulanic acid was added 👇
Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor , it blocks the enzyme that destroys amoxicillin.

This allows amoxicillin to stay active and kill the bacteria by inhibiting their cell wall synthesis.

That is how both work synergistically to fight resistant bacteria.

This is why it is better to buy Augmentin or Amoxiclav,it is more effective than the brand containing amoxicillin alone. Although,it is more expensive.
