【Premier Zhou Enlai's Elbow】
I don't know if anyone has noticed, but Premier Zhou Enlai always claps with his left hand striking his right hand, and when taking photos, his right hand is never hanging straight down. This is related to an injury he sustained to his elbow.
On July 10, 1939, Premier Zhou had a serious fall from a horse, injuring his right arm severely, with the forearm bone protruding from the elbow joint.
After the injury, Premier Zhou was initially treated by doctors from the Central Health Team, and later underwent surgery performed by three Indian doctors, but his condition did not improve.
Later on, Chairman Mao even advised him to go to the Soviet Union for another surgery, but the outcome was still unsatisfactory. That injured arm could never be fully straightened again, and Premier Zhou's elbow joint's flexion and extension functions were impaired for life.
Despite being the Premier and receiving the best medical treatment, Zhou Enlai still faced the sequelae of limited elbow joint mobility, highlighting the delicate nature of the elbow joint. Dislocation or fracture of the elbow joint requires not only medical expertise but also a bit of luck for the patient.
A child visited Guoyitang (a traditional Chinese medicine clinic) because he accidentally fell from the bed yesterday. His hand is not very swollen, just extremely painful and unable to bend or straighten. An X-ray examination confirmed an intra-articular fracture of the elbow joint. Injuries involving bones and muscles usually take 100 days to heal; seemingly simple cases like this often require at least three months of rehabilitation.
Patients entrust their lives to doctors, and doctors should treat them with sincerity. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
