🌿How does Thieves cleaner work?🌿
Let’s chat about surfactants....
Surfactants reduce surface tension. (surface...surfactants 😉) They allow the dirt and grime to loosen which helps us clean, wash, and wipe it away.
YL Thieves all purpose cleaner, contains 2 surfactants: Non-ionic surfactants (Alkyl polyglucoside) and Anionic surfactants (Sodium methyl-2 sulfolaurate, Disodium 2-sulfolaurate) One works to loosen dirt and grime and other helps to emulsify the concentrate with water and oils. The Thieves essential oil blend within the cleaner also has some incredible properties for cleaning!
This experiment was to give you an idea of how surfactants work:
Pepper is added to water. The pepper floats on top because it is hydrophobic.
This has to do with surface tension.
Because pepper is hydrophobic it will not mix with water. The water molecules are so attracted to each other that they have a high surface tension which allows the pepper to float on top.
When I dip my finger in water and add to the pepper/water mixture nothing happens.
When I dip my finger with Thieves cleaner, it breaks the surface tension and as the water molecules spread out away from the cleaner, they bring the pepper with them.
Thieves cleaner can clean virtually every surface in your home, including carpets, floors, counters, glass, walls, and more. It is an effective deep clean without the harsh or dangerous chemicals found in many traditional cleaning products.
