Here's the download on how to make yourself get a cold easily in the Autumn as the season changes.
I will explain why some people are more susceptible and that it's not just a case a of bad luck of inhaling some cold virus particles in the air.
You have a lot of control over your body developing a cold - so here's how:
Do any of these sound like you?
1. You are still living in Summer mode. The weather and climate in the northern hemisphere is changing. The temperature is dropping, the nights are getting darker earlier and you are in complete denial that you have to alter anything about your lifestyle. The animals may change their habits, but you feel you are invincible to these huge shifts.
" I'll just carry on as I was and ignore the leaves falling and just put a sweater on, light some pumpkin candles, enjoy scrolling the "hygge" posts" at the same time as being completely disconnected to nature and what Autumn actually IS.
It's change and adaptation.
2. You are ignoring the fact that the nights are getting darker. To you, it just means that your electric bill is going up by putting the lights on and perhaps the heating on. You don't realise that these changes mean you are going to have less energy, your adrenals need to rest earlier than in the summer, and you need to be mindful of scrolling on light emitting devices before bed. Your melatonin wants to kick in earlier. If you don't make these shifts, your adrenals get tired quicker, and you get rundown and get a cold.
3. " I'm more tired, so what I'll do is stay up later, because I feel miserable and watch Netflix in bed or scroll because Autumn makes me feel down."
If you're more tired you need to rest and get to bed earlier. Your adrenals repair in the evenings. If you are tired - then guess what - your body IS probably tired and wants to rest. If it doesn't rest - you'll get a cold. Go to bed earlier.
4. "I feel tired so I need a sugary quick fix to comfort me because its getting grey outside and - I'm tired".
When your adrenals are tired and working too hard - they love protein - not rubbish sugary chocolate bars. Eat a good warm breakfast with some protein in it - and eat some protein as part of your meals. You will be in a better position to cope with the day ahead.
5. You're tired and not implementing good strategies to rest.
" I like to scroll on social media or TV when my brain is so tired and full and saturated - I don't want to think - so I do more things that feel passive but are actually energy sapping."
Screen are not resting - TV programs are stimulating. Social media is stimulating. But your body is passive. The mind is not.
You need to daydream, stare into space, yoga, meditation, deep breathing, box breathing. Let go of the day's tension by journalling or art journalling. Offload - don't take on more information.
If you do one or more of these things - you will be making yourself more susceptible to having a cold. And if you have one, it will be taking triple time to get over it.
Change your lifestyle habits, help yourself and you'll avoid colds.
Change your ways with the change of the season.
