📢 Let’s Talk Representation – Know Your Role as a Worker!

Workers often raise concerns about not being properly consulted by NAPWU—but let’s ask an important question:
👉 Do you have a functional Workplace Union Representative Committee (WURCOM) structure at your workplace to represent you?
A WURCOM is your voice at the workplace. It ensures that your concerns, rights, and interests are communicated effectively between employees and the employer through the union. Without it, meaningful consultation becomes difficult. You need to have persons elected from amongst yourselves and the number of employees at your workplace.

🔑 Key Things to Know:
• WURCOM members are elected representatives from among workers at each workplace.
• They act as a bridge between employees, the employer and NAPWU officials/leaders.
• Only NAPWU members are eligible to serve in this structure—this strengthens unity and accountability.
• Members who are eligible to be elected as representatives are only from a meeting constituted by NAPWU members.

📍 Real Example in Action:
From 08–10 April 2026, we engaged with the Walvis Bay Municipality, where workers actively participated in:
✔️ Nominating their representatives
✔️ Voting democratically
✔️ Strengthening their workplace representation

👏 This is how workers take ownership of their voice through their union!
đź’ˇ Your Responsibility:
If you want to be heard, get involved:
• Join NAPWU;
• Participate in WURCOM elections; then
• Hold your representatives accountable
✊ Strong representation starts with YOU.

Let’s build workplaces where every worker has a voice and every voice is heard.

✊🏾 NAPWU strengthening Worker Representation at ECN

A Workplace Union Representative Committee (WURCOM) is a group of elected union representatives within a workplace who represent the interests, rights, and concerns of union members and workers in that institution.

On 5 March 2026, the Namibia Public Workers Union (NAPWU) held a feedback and information-sharing session at the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN). The session provided an important platform to engage workers on union matters, share updates, and strengthen workplace organization.
During the session, workers were introduced to NAPWU process and procedures, its vision, mission, key objectives and core values. They were also given the opportunity to democratically elect their new Workplace Union Representative Committee (WURCOM).

👏🏾 NAPWU proudly introduced newly elected ECN Workplace Union Representatives to management and fellow staff members. The elected representatives will serve as the vital link between workers, management, and the union—ensuring that workers’ voices are heard and their rights protected.

At NAPWU, we believe that strong workplace representation builds stronger institutions and empowers workers.

If you are part of a government ministry, agency, parastatal, or an organization that is related to public services or providing social services and would like to establish a Workplace Union Representative Committee (WURCOM) at your institution, do not hesitate to reach out or to drop a comment below.

Our team would be happy to visit your workplace and assist you in setting up a structure that represents workers effectively as provides for under NAPWU aims, objectives and mandate.
