Cancer touches millions of lives in countless ways but it doesn't define who we are. We are more than a disease, more than a statistic.

The World Cancer Day campaign 2025-27 “United by Unique” places people at the centre of care and explores new ways of making a difference. It offers a three-year journey from raising awareness to taking action.
On 4 February we commemorate World Cancer Day. Please consider sharing your journey with cancer, to possibly inspire and motivate a fellow Namibian going through the same, but who may feel lost and broken.

Your voice us unique, your journey with cancer is respected - let's break the barriers and come together as a united Namibia fighting cancer.

*if you are willing to help inspire hope and be the change to impact others, please reach out to admin@can.org.na to schedule a recording session. These video clips will be part our our "Campaign of Hope" for 2026 to help others.

Let's be Sun Smart to fight Skin Cancer this Festive...

As we head into the Festive Season of summer, sun and fun 2025, the Cancer Association of Namibia (WO30) reminds all Namibians to be Sun Smart and Skin Cancer Responsible.

UV radiation levels across Namibia are already extremely high this summer, increasing the risk of sunburn and long-term skin damage. As you head outdoors for holidays, travel, sport and family time, please keep the following Sun Smart tips in mind:

Sun Smart Tips for a Safe Namibian Summer:

- Apply sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) at least 20 minutes before going outside, and reapply every two hours, or after swimming and sweating.

- Wear protective clothing: long sleeves, wide-brimmed hats, UV-blocking sunglasses, and tightly woven fabrics.

- Seek shade, especially between 10:00 and 16:00, when UV levels peak.

- Avoid tanning beds and intentional tanning as these dramatically increase skin cancer risk.

- Check your skin regularly for new moles, changes in shape or colour, or any non-healing sores. Early detection saves lives.

- Protect children especially, as their skin is more sensitive, and sunburn in childhood significantly increases lifetime skin cancer risk.

- Stay hydrated, as high temperatures and sun exposure can worsen dehydration and heat-related illness.

Remember: Your skin is your body’s largest organ and one of your greatest protectors, but also highly exposed. While not all skin cancers are invasive or life-threatening, skin cancer remains the most common cancer diagnosis in Namibia. Being proactive now helps prevent avoidable disease later.

The Cancer Association of Namibia (WO30) wishes all Namibians a blessed and safe Summer Holiday, a joyful Christmas, and a healthy and hopeful 2026.

We hosted our annual CHICA Christmas Party at 8 West Paediatric Oncology Ward of Windhoek Central Hospital today to hand out some gifts, treats and toys to the little ones who will be spending Christmas in the hospital.
Our appreciation to our steadfast partner, Gondwana Collection Namibia via the Gondwana Care Trust for again standing with us to help bring some cheer.

Blessed Christmas everyone 🙏

On 11 November, Namibia achieved the successful completion of its first autologous stem cell transplant, a development that significantly reduces the need for patients to seek life-saving treatment abroad.
