NamPower Launches its Ethics Awareness Campaign
NamPower launched its ethics awareness campaign, to introduce employees to the company’s new Ethics Strategy, Ethics Code and the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy with the aim of enhancing an ethical culture within the company.
Board Chairperson, Laurence Kavendjii, said NamPower as a commercial public enterprise, performs a key role in achieving Government’s objectives and thus cannot deliver an efficient and effective service to the Namibian economy, without effective and good governance, with ethics forming the indispensable foundation of good governance.
According to Kavendjii, Pillar 4 of the newly launched Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6) requires us to cultivate a culture of integrity, ethical behaviour, accountability, transparency and fairness in the provision of public service, of which the provision of electricity is one.
“As we launch the Ethics Awareness Campaign today, I want to emphasise as the shareholder representative, that unethical behaviour directly undermines the effectiveness of the State to promote competitiveness and sustainable development, which leads to growth and in turn reduce poverty. But to make a success of good ethics initiatives such as the one we are launching today, it is important that the tone is set at the very top,".
The board chairman emphasised that both the board, executive management, as well as employees embody a culture of ethical conduct to ensure security of electricity supply to the Namibian nation.
“As employees of a public enterprise which plays a key role in national objectives, you are required to make morally defensible decisions, and you must recognise the underlying principles of good governance through efficient and effective service, founded on ethical principles,” Kavendjii maintained.
