The LCO vs LOC Method Explained
When it comes to moisturizing natural hair, the order you apply products matters. Two popular methods are the LCO and LOC methods – and the right one depends on your hair porosity.
LCO Method (Liquid → Cream → Oil)
• Best for low porosity hair
• Why? Low porosity hair struggles to let moisture in, so layering a water-based product first, then cream, and finally oil helps trap hydration without weighing strands down.
LOC Method (Liquid → Oil → Cream)
• Best for high porosity hair
• Why? High porosity hair loses moisture quickly, so sealing with oil right after water helps keep hydration inside, while cream adds extra protection and softness.
• Low porosity = LCO
• High porosity = LOC
Choosing the right method for your porosity can be the difference between hair that feels dry in hours… and hair that stays soft, moisturized, and thriving.
