Hello Fams!!
Let's talk about Food Labels.
How to check food labels.
You go to a Supermarket and you're standing there looking at Cornflakes, Golden Morn, Quaker Oats... The packaging is saying "Fortified with vitamins!" "No artificial this!" "Added iron!"
But do you know what's REALLY inside? 👀
I'm about to teach you how to become a FOOD LABEL DETECTIVE in 60 seconds! 🔍
STEP 1: IGNORE THE FRONT ❌
That's where they put the marketing magic! "Made with real milk" could mean 2% milk powder 🙄
STEP 2: FLIP TO THE INGREDIENTS LIST 📋
First 3 ingredients = 80% of the product
If sugar is in the top 3, think twice
If you can't pronounce it, should you really eat it? Your body might not understand it as well!
STEP 3: THE NUTRITION FACTS REALITY CHECK 📊
✅ Serving size: Is it realistic
✅ Sugar: Should be under 6g per serving for everyday foods
✅ Sodium: Must be less than 600mg per serving
✅ Fiber: 3g+ means you're winning!
STEP 4: THE 5-INGREDIENT RULE 🖐️
The fewer ingredients, the better. Your grandmother should recognize everything on the list!
The pronunciation test - If you can't say it easily, think twice, long chemical names = over-processed
⚡ QUICK WINS FOR
🚨 RED FLAGS TO AVOID:
High fructose corn syrup (first 5 ingredients)
Anything ending in -ose (hidden sugars!)
Trans fats (even small amounts add up)
More than 15 ingredients (it's chemistry, not food!)
REAL TALK: That "healthy" granola bar might have more sugar than a bottle of Coke! 🍫
