SIx(6) ESSENTIAL TIPS ABOUT CIPROFLOXACIN THAT YOU NEED TO TO KEEP IN MIND:
1. AVOID UNNECESSARY PROLONGED SUN EXPOSURE:
Ciprofloxacin might make your skin sensitive to sunlight or UV light. If you notice redness, swelling, or blistering akin to a bad sunburn, don't hesitate to call your Healthcare provider.
2. NOT SUITABLE FOR PREGNANCY OR BREASTFEEDING:
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, avoid using Ciprofloxacin, Levofloxacin, or Ofloxacin. These drugs can lead to issues with the baby's muscle and skeletal growth, as well as joint pain and potential nerve damage in the mother.
3. EXTREME CAUTION FOR EPILEPTICS:
If you have epilepsy, combining Ciprofloxacin with other quinolones is not recommended. Such combinations can trigger confusion and general seizures, elevating the risk of seizures in epilepsy.
4. NOT FOR KIDS BELOW 16 YEARS: Ciprofloxacin can cuse problems with bones and joints in children. Therefore, it's generally not given to children under 16 unless they have severe infections that can't be treated with other antibiotics.
5. WATCH WHAT YOU ARE TAKING:
Avoid consuming Ciprofloxacin alongside milk or antacids containing calcium, aluminum hydroxide, or magnesium hydroxide. Take these medications at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after Ciprofloxacin to prevent interference with its absorption into the bloodstream.
6. BE CAUTIOUS WITH JOINT ISSUES:
If you have joint problems, be aware that taking Ciprofloxacin increases the risk of tendinitis (swelling of fibrous tissue connecting bones and muscles) or tendon rupture during treatment or for several months afterward.
Always remember, Ciprofloxacin may rarely cause tendon inflammation or tearing, especially if you are over 60 years old or using steroid medicines like dexamethasone or prednisolone.
Stay informed and take care of yourself.
