28/07/2021

BRONCHITIS is one of the top 10 conditions for which people seek medical care. It’s an uncomfortable ailment that leaves you coughing for weeks (or more) and comes with plenty of mucus. Although many physicians treat bronchitis with antibiotics, a majority of cases are caused by viruses and antibiotics are completely ineffective. Try using some safe and natural remedies. They can help to reduce swelling in the bronchial tubes and relieve your sometimes painful cough.

WHAT IS BRONCHITIS?

Bronchitis is the inflammation of the bronchial tubes, the tubes that carry air to your lungs. This condition causes you to cough persistently, sometimes making it hard to breathe. The coughing may even lead to chest pain and wheezing. Bronchitis is also known as a chest cold because it usually occurs after you’ve already experienced symptoms of the common cold.

About 5 percent of adults self-report an episode of acute bronchitis each year. Up to 90 percent of them seek medical advice. In fact, bronchitis is the fifth most common reason why adults see their general practitioner.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

The main symptom of acute bronchitis is a persistent cough. This cough lasts until your bronchial tubes heal and the swelling goes down. The cough lasts for less than 3 weeks in 50 percent of patients. But for 25 percent of patients it may last more than one month. Because bronchitis usually develops after you’ve already had a cold or flu, you may also experience typical cold and flu symptoms, such as:

- Sore throat
- Fatigue
- Stuffy or runny nose
- Fever
- Body aches
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea

When you cough, you may produce a clear mucus, or slimy substance; if the mucus is a yellow or green color, that’s a sign that you have a bacterial infection as well.

Other symptoms of acute bronchitis include wheezing (a whistling or squeaky sound when you breathe), chest tightness or pain, lower fever and maybe even shortness of breath, especially during physical activity.

People with chronic bronchitis most commonly experience coughing (often called a smoker’s cough) with large amounts of fluid, wheezing and chest discomfort.

problems once the infection is gone. The same viruses that cause colds and the flu are the most common cause of acute bronchitis. Acute bronchitis lasts from a few days to 10 days; however, coughing may last for several weeks after the infection is gone.

Chronic bronchitis is an ongoing, serious condition that is associated with an accelerated decline in lung function. It occurs if the lining of the bronchial tubes is constantly irritated and inflamed. People with chronic bronchitis have a long-term cough with mucus. Sometimes, viruses or bacteria can infect the already irritated bronchial tubes, making the condition even worse.

Smoking is the main cause of chronic bronchitis. So, the first line of treatment is to quit smoking and avoid secondhand smoke. In fact, research shows that approximately one-quarter of smokers can be affected by clinically significant chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). COPD is a respiratory disease characterized by abnormal inflammatory response in the lungs and restricted airflow.

Causes and Risk Factors
The same viruses that give you a cold or the flu often cause bronchitis as well. Sometimes bacteria are the cause. Research suggests that 85 percent to 95 percent of cases of acute bronchitis are caused by viruses, the most common being rhinovirus, adenovirus, influenza A and B, and parainfluenza. When bacteria is the cause of bronchitis, it is usually in people with underlying health problems. In both cases, your body tries to fight off the germs and, as a result, your bronchial tubes swell and make more mucus, which causes smaller openings for air to flow and makes it harder to breathe.

People with a weaker immune system, such as elderly people, infants and young children, are at a higher risk of developing acute bronchitis than people in other age groups. Chronic bronchitis occurs more often in people older than 45, but it can develop at any age.

Many adults who develop chronic bronchitis are smokers or live with a smoker. A study published in Current Opinion in Pulmonary Medicine indicates that over 40 percent of smokers will develop chronic bronchitis in their lifetime. Researchers found that smokers may reduce their risk of developing COPD symptoms with physical activity and increase their survival by smoking reduction.

Women are also more at risk of developing chronic bronchitis; in fact, women are more than twice as likely as men to be diagnosed with chronic bronchitis.

Other factors, such as contact with dust, chemical fumes and vapors from certain jobs, also increase your risk for bronchitis. This includes jobs in coal mining, grain handling, livestock farming and textile manufacturing. Some people may develop bronchitis because of a reaction to allergies or food intolerances as well.

5 REASONS BEHIND BREAST PAIN..

Breast pain, aka (mastalgia) accounts for nearly half of all breast-related complaints. However, before you start jumping to dire conclusions (breast cancer!), please read this.

If you’re suffering from pain, tenderness or increased sensitivity to touch or pressure in one or both of your breasts, we can understand that you’re probably terrified and imagining the worst.

Ergo, let’s get a few facts straight first. Breast pain alone isn’t usually an indicator of breast cancer; and, according to experts, it is much more likely that tender, aching breasts could be caused by something else.

The following are 5 very likely reasons why you’re experiencing pain, or even increased sensitivity, in your breasts:

1. MASTITIS

Mastitis is an infection of breast tissue that leads to the inflammation, i.e., abnormal swelling and redness of breasts.

In most cases, it is as a result of an infection of a woman’s breast ducts and occurs in mother’s who are nursing. While breastfeeding, bacteria residing inside the baby’s mouth could gain entry into a woman’s breasts through her ni**le.

Other than breast pain, mastitis could also lead to symptoms such as:

- General discomfort in breasts.

- Fever of 38.3 C (101 F) or higher temperatures.

- Chills, fatigue or malaise.

- Warm or red breast skin.

- Ni**le discharge or pus is also common.

2. FIBROMAS

Finding a lump in your breast can be terrifying. However, not all tumors and lumps happen to be cancerous.
tumor is called a fibroma . It is most commonly discovered in women below the age of 30.

Fibromas are very small but feel distinctly different from surrounding breast tissue. Their boundaries are clearly defined and they can be moved under the skin. They feel almost like small marbles and could possess a rubbery feel.

While the exact cause of fibromas isn’t fully known yet, the hormone ‘estrogen’ has been thought to play a role in the genesis and development of these benign tumors. Additionally, the use of oral contraceptives in women below 20 years of age has also been linked to a higher risk of the development of fibromas.

These benign tumors could grow, especially if you’re pregnant. Once they hit menopause, women often report fibromas as shrinking. It is entirely possible for fibromas to resolve spontaneously by themselves.

Occasionally, however, if they’re on the larger scale, they may require surgical excision.

3. CYSTS

A cyst in one’s breast may feel like a lump, but it could actually be a small and usually harmless sac residing in your breast tissue, which is actually filled with fluid rather than cancerous or noncancerous cells.

They can be found in one or both breasts and can also present with signs and symptoms such as:

- Breast tenderness or pain in the region of the breast cyst.

- Ni**le discharge that could be clear, straw colored or even dark brown.

- A lump that is smooth and easily moveable with distinct boundaries or edges (signifying a benign nature).

- Changes in breast tenderness and size of the lump with your menstrual cycle.

4. MENSTRUATION

Cyclic breast pain, i.e. pain that comes and goes with your monthly periods, is the most common cause for mastalgia. This symptom is part of a group of symptoms, which are collectively called premenstrual syndrome or PMS.

It is usually generated in women due to the normal monthly fluctuations in hormones, and generally this pain occurs in both breasts. Estrogen will cause breast ducts to enlarge while progesterone will cause milk glands to swell – both events lead to tender breasts. Women who suffer from menstruation induced breast pain often describe it as soreness or heaviness of the breasts that radiates to the arm and armpit.

Generally, this pain is most severe right before a woman’s menstrual period and will often cease once the period ends. It occurs most commonly in younger women and will usually disappear around menopause.

5. DIET

Your diet could very well be the guilty culprit behind your breast pain.

Foods rich in sodium, caffeine or those having a high fat content are perfect examples.

Other foods to watch out for include:
• Peanuts, walnuts, almonds, and other dried foods.

• Black tea, green tea, soda, and other caffeinated beverages.

• Chocolate

• Processed condiments or sauces.

• Salted fries or popcorn.

• Red meat and sausages.

PROSTATE CANCER

Warning Signs and Symptoms You Shouldn’t Ignore...

Over previous decades the most prevalent form of cancer among American men has been prostate cancer. It will continue to be a pressing health concern in the U.S. as according the the American Cancer Society estimates, 230,000 new diagnoses of this cancer and almost 30,000 deaths from it occurred in 2014.1 The society also estimates that 1 in every 7 men will contract prostate cancer in their life, most of them around the age of 66.

Knowing what prostate cancer is, how to detect it, what it comes from, factors that make you more susceptible to it and how to prevent it is a great way to ensure peace of mind as you age. The information listed below is a general overview of the cancer’s most important facets.

WHAT IS PROSTATE CANCER?

This type of cancer occurs in the prostate, a small gland found in the reproductive system of most male mammals. This gland plays an important role in reproduction by providing s***m with fluid to travel in.

There are several different types of prostate cancer, each of them develops a bit differently. Most of the time the cancer is slowly developed over time and doesn’t present a large risk of spreading. Other forms of prostate cancer on the other hand can have a much quicker and destructive spread. The cancer is exclusive to men, and happens most often when they are older.

The disease can be deadly, but not as much as other cancers. The majority of men learn to live with prostate cancer and don’t actually die from it.

SYMPTOMS OF PROSTATE CANCER:

When a person initially develops prostate cancer it typically takes a while for any noticeable symptoms to emerge. Like most other forms of cancer, it is much easier to treat in the earlier stages when it is isolated, making early detection and knowledge critical for men. When it develops into later stages, the following symptoms can show:

URINARY CONCERNS:

Many of the signs linked to prostate cancer lie within the urinary system. The cancer may cause a difficulty with urination, less forceful urination, pain while urinating and blood in the urine.

SEMEN:

The semen has an unusual appearance, most likely resulting from the mixture of blood.2

PAIN AND DISCOMFORT:

Pain in the lower half of the body is common among people with prostate cancer. It most commonly happens in the lower back, legs, and hips. There may also be a discomfort in the pelvis when sitting down or a moderate pain in the bones in general.

ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION (ED):

Losing the ability to keep an er****on that is sufficient for in*******se. A study that covered more than 20,000 patients found that the risk of prostate cancer was significantly higher in men with ED than in those without ED.

About two-thirds of men diagnosed with prostate cancer don’t actually show many symptoms. Of the third who did, at least one of the symptoms mentioned above was observed.

CAUSES OF PROSTATE CANCER...

It’s a bit unclear what the direct cause of prostate cancer is. Medical research has only been able to pinpoint the issue on a cellular level. Like most other cancers, prostate cancer develops when abnormal cells are produced in the reproductive gland.

The mutated cells spread much quicker than the normal healthy cells and begin to take up more space. This build up of cells can lead to a tumor in the tissue, from which cells can separate and grow in other parts of the body.

RISK FACTORS OF PROSTATE CANCER:

These are the four most prominent risk factors for prostate cancer, though it is hard to tell exactly what is the most important because the cause of the disease is debatable 4.

AGE – Age is by far the biggest risk factor among men, which is why it’s recommended to start testing around the age of 40. It’s very rare for anyone under 50 to contract the disease, most commonly developing from age 60 to 70.

GENETICS – There are statistics that show that a family history of prostate cancer can increase the risk of the disease up to three times. If someone’s older family member was diagnosed before they turned 60, they have an even higher risk. As the number of relatives, particularly those with first degree lineage, increases, the odds of a faulty gene causing the cancer are higher.

OBESITY – Some studies document that higher body mass index can present a higher risk of prostate cancer. Doctors also note that it’s difficult to diagnose the cancer and treat in in obese men.
