Happy Father's Day!

To the fathers who lead with love, strength, and quiet resilience—today, we celebrate you.

Being a father goes beyond providing; it’s about presence, patience, and unwavering support.

From guiding little steps to standing strong through life’s challenges, your role shapes minds and hearts in ways that words can’t always capture.

To every dad out there—whether biological, adoptive, or a father figure—you matter. Your influence is felt, and your love is deeply appreciated.

To every male figure out there doing their best to live the life for their future, we celebrate you.

Your presence is power.
Happy Father's Day from all of us at Belwet Mind Clinic

Imagine walking into a space, excited for a simple outing, only to be told—without reason—you don’t belong. That your presence makes others uncomfortable. That the world would rather look away than acknowledge your existence.

This is what happened to a father and his daughter, a child with special needs, when they were denied entry at Emirates Mall in Ilorin. The father’s pain was visible, raw. Not just because of the inconvenience, but because of the unspoken message society often sends to children like his: You are different, and that means you don’t fit.

But here’s the truth—visibility matters. Inclusion matters. And isolation, especially for people with special needs, does more harm than most realize.

Mental health isn’t just about diagnoses; it’s about how we experience the world. When children are consistently kept out of public spaces, stared at with unease, or avoided, it builds a sense of rejection. It teaches them—and their families—that maybe they really should be hidden away. That maybe the world isn’t meant for them. And that idea? It’s devastating.

We must do better. Not just for individuals with special needs, but for the mental health of every person who has ever felt like they were too different to be welcomed.

Let’s make inclusion more than just a word. Let’s make it a reality.
Let's be more human
Religion without humanity is toxicity!
Let love reign and let compassion rule!

At Belwet Mind Clinic , the goal is to make you safe as you go through the healing journey until you heal and become.the best version of you. Belwet Mind Clinic is home.

FINALLY: Illinois just passed a law that says if you’re not a licensed human, you don’t get to call what you’re doing “therapy.”

No AI chatbot, no matter how friendly or “empathetic,” gets to call itself a therapist. AI can teach mindfulness, track moods and symptoms, lead you through meditations, whatever, that’s all fine and good. But the phrase "therapy" is reserved for humans.

This is how it should be. Massage chairs are useful, but they’re not a massage therapist. A running app can motivate you to lace up your shoes, but it’s not going to help you if you need medical support to get active- for that, you need a doctor. Meditation apps, sleep trackers, AI chatbots, etc can fill real needs, and the best ones help a lot of people. There’s nothing wrong with subclinical support, and we need more of it, not less.

But let’s not confuse the roles.

Also, here's some encouragement: if we trust ourselves and the work we do as clinicians, we don’t have to panic every time a new chatbot hits the market. AI isn’t going to replace the work that happens between humans in therapy.

Companies are making big claims, but give it time. Their place in the mental health ecosystem will settle (probably somewhere between a massage chair and a mindfulness reminder.)

Helpful? Sure.
Therapy? Nope.

Therapists aren’t going anywhere.

𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐄𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐀𝐍𝐗𝐈𝐄𝐓𝐘 𝐁𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐄 𝐈T 𝐁𝐄𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐒 𝐀N 𝐀𝐍𝐗𝐈𝐄𝐓𝐘 𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐎𝐑𝐃𝐄𝐑

Do you know that anxiety is a natural emotion? It is your body’s way of responding to stress or perceived danger.

But when anxiety becomes persistent, overwhelming, and starts interfering with daily life, it may develop into a disorder. Recognizing the early stages can help prevent it from escalating.

Are you ready to ride with me?💃

1️⃣ Stage 1: Occasional Worry (Normal Anxiety)
Almost everyone experiences anxiety in response to challenges. Stress about an exam, a job interview, or a tough conversation is normal. In this stage:
- Anxiety is short-lived & situational.
- It does not disrupt daily life.
- Coping mechanisms, like deep breathing or exercise, help manage it.

2️⃣Stage 2: Frequent Anxiety (Heightened Awareness)
As stressors increase, anxiety may become more frequent. You may notice:
- Restlessness or nervousness occurring more often.
- Overthinking situations & anticipating worst-case scenarios.
- Difficulty sleeping due to excessive worry.

3️⃣Stage 3: Persistent Anxiety (Interference Begins)
At this point, anxiety moves beyond occasional stress & starts interfering with daily routines. Signs may include:
- Avoiding social events or responsibilities due to fear.
- Feeling drained or overwhelmed regularly.
- Physical symptoms like headaches, stomach issues, or rapid heartbeat.

4️⃣Stage 4: Chronic Anxiety (Impacting Mental Health and Physical Health)
Now, anxiety is constant, affecting work, relationships, & well-being. People in this stage may experience:
- Persistent feelings of dread or panic attacks.
- A sense of being unable to control worry.
- Increased irritability, difficulty concentrating, or changes in appetite.

5️⃣Stage 5: Anxiety Disorder
At its most severe, anxiety becomes a disorder, diagnosed when:
- It lasts for six months or more.
- It severely disrupts life and daily functioning.
- It manifests in conditions like Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Panic Disorder, or Social Anxiety Disorder.

🌐If anxiety has started taking over your daily life, don't ignore it. Take small steps today— seek professional help, practice mindfulness. Healing is possible, and support is always available.

Thirteen years ago, I was all about flexibility—acrobatics, yoga, you name it! I even found myself channeling the energy to the movie -- Make It or Break It. 😁

Fast forward to last night… I decided to give those moves another shot, and let’s just say my neck almost got twisted!😄😄

Now, here’s the thing—just because you have completed a full CBT plan and embraced various therapeutic techniques doesn’t mean you will never need therapy again.

🟢Therapy is not a stigma. Therapy is healing.

We normalize going to the hospital for physical illnesses, so why not do the same for follow-up therapy sessions? A gradual drift from balance can eventually lead to disorder, but before it gets to that point, why not seek help?

And if you’re still putting off therapy, think about this—when a tooth starts decaying, it won’t heal itself. Without professional care, it’ll only worsen, spreading to healthy gums.

When it comes to violence, with my years of experience working with different ages, I would say that some are victims of violence not only because they don't have fathers but because of the following:
1. Religious and ignorant Parents (these sets would prefer their kids to keep enduring and praying for a miracle till they die in marriage than to leave to live)

2. Selfish parents (parents who don't care what their kid goes through, all they care about is the money they get from their in-law)

3. Religious leaders (some pastors are despicable and the words of their mouth centres around "you aren't submissive that is why, till death do you part...)

4. Fear of the society (What would be said of me if I leave?)

5. The victim now sees the predator as a part of her/his life that can't be detached (stockholm syndrome)

6. An individual with a wounded mental health status, a personality and psychological disorder. (They have long forgotten what it feels like to be loved)

I care 😘

Breaking the Silence: Preventing Sexual Abuse

As a mental health therapist, I want to emphasize the importance of addressing sexual abuse. It's crucial we recognize the signs and work together to prevent it.

☀️How To Prevent Sexual Abuse☀️
1. Open communication.
2. Set clear boundaries, be very firm with your words and consistent.
3. You owe no one an explanation for how you want to set your boundaries or want to be approached. That is why it is called personal space. You should be the one to call the shot and hold the piper.
4. Trust your instincts
5. Don't please people to your own detriment.
6. Be careful of people you hold in high esteem.
7. As soon as you feel uncomfortable leave that environment, remove yourself from that situation, walk away.
8. Pay attention to how someone makes you feel.
9. Be cautious of people that try to isolate you.
10. Be careful of people that try to groom you.
11. Have self confidence and don't get carried away by complimentary words.

Education and supporting survivors are key strategies in prevention.
Let's break the silence and create a safer, more compassionate society.
