THE DEVIL I BECAME

CHAPTER 1

Ayuk and Babila were sitting on a bench in front of their school. They were both Form 4 students and were about 16 years of age. They were both the same height though Babila was slightly bulkier. Ayuk’s mother was from Nigeria and his father was Cameroonian. On the other hand, Babila was a native-born Cameroonian. However, that is not the end of the story.

The story started when Akpan, an Akwa Ibom man living in a single bedroom house in Babila’s father’s compound invited Babila to his room. He said he wanted to show him something.

Akpan was a farmer. He had left all the way from Nigeria to do some hustling in Cameroon. However, lately, he seemed to have started a new profession. This is because he hardly ever went to the farm and he spent most days locked in his room for God knows reason.

Unlike the other normal Akwa Ibom men who were doing farm work and spoke a heavily accented pidgin English, Akpan spoke perfect English, which suggests that he seemed to have seen the four walls of a university and he always walked with the air of a well to do person. He had always helped Babila with his assignments whenever he had the time to. This explained why Babila wasn’t suspicious when he told him he wanted to show him something.

“Babila, my man. Well done oh. How was school today?” Akpan asked.

“Good.” Babila responded.” I can see you didn’t go to farm once again.”

“Yes oh, young man. I didn’t.”

“Why?”

“Don’t worry, you won’t understand.” Akpan said and laughed. Then he became suddenly serious. He continued. “There is something I have to show you. It’s really important, serious and dangerous. You have to promise me that you won’t tell anybody.” A small sweat had developed on his forehead. He wiped it with the back of his hand.

Babila look puzzled. He couldn’t understand why Akpan who had always looked harmless and jovial was suddenly scaring him.

“What is it, Akpan? I hope you are alright?” Babila, asked.

SALLY'S CLOSE CALL WITH DEATH (a true story)

Money minded and materialistic Sally and her friend, Emily were coming back from work one day when they met a wealthy good looking man in a range rover. All her friend's attempts to dissuade Sally from going with the man, who had proposed to give them a lift home, failed.

Sally got into the shiny new car and the man took her to his mansion which was found in a secluded part of town, close to the sea. As if under a hypnotic spell, she followed the man into the compound. By the gate, stood a sad faced security guard who seemed to be winking and warning her to retrace her steps and run out of the compound. The owner of the house was an evil man. Whoever walks into his house never comes out. They are sacrificed at the back of his house which has a connection to the sea.

Luckily for Sally, she was smart enough to realize she was being warned by the security guard. Her head worked like a machine within those few seconds and she hurriedly came up with a plan. She faked a call and pretended that she had just been called that her ailing father had been rushed to the hospital.

The man who didn't suspect anything offered to give her a lift to the hospital. She gladly accepted and left with the man in his car all the while pretending to weep. That's how her life was saved. When they got close to the hospital, she got off the car and was never seen by the man again. The man tried to call her later but she refused to pick and later changed her number.

Moral of the story: Not all that glitters is gold.

CASTELLA CHOCOLATE CAKE 😋
Ingredients:
8 eggs (separate them into whites and yolks)
60g low-gluten flour (preferably)
60g of corn flour (corn starch)
40g unsweetened cocoa powder
20g cornstarch
70g of corn oil
140g of dark chocolate chips
100g of fresh milk
4g lemon juice
1 pinch of salt
110g of sugar
Preparation:
1. PART I: In a bowl mix the low-gluten flour, cornmeal, cocoa powder and cornstarch. To avoid lumps, I recommend sifting these ingredients together.
2. Heat the corn oil in the microwave for 1 and a half minutes, reaching approximately 90°C (You could use other lighter oils such as canola oil if you wish). Pour the oil into the mixture of dry ingredients from the previous step and mix them well with the help of a whisk.
3. Add 20g dark chocolate chips and mix gently until the chocolate is completely melted (this may take 2-3 minutes). If the chips are too large, you may need to pre-chop them.
4. Immediately add 40g of the fresh milk and mix well. Add the yolks of the 8 eggs and mix well.
5. Now we are going to finish adding the rest of the milk little by little (until we complete the 100g in total), taking into account that it is absorbed by the dough.
6. PART II: You will need to mount the egg whites, to do this, in a tall bowl, place the egg whites and add 4g of lemon juice and a pinch of salt. Beat them and add the sugar little by little, in 3 parts. Continue beating until you reach snow point.
7. Now add the beaten egg whites to the mixture obtained in PART I. For this you must divide the egg whites and add them in 3 times while integrating them into the dough with a spatula and gentle enveloping movements. When the mixture is homogeneous, add 100g of chocolate chips and mix well.
8. To bake we will use an 8-inch square pan. We must cover it with baking paper, holding the corners with some hooks. Pour the mixture into the mold and add more chocolate chips on the surface, about 20g.

How to make Ice - Cream at home
Ingredients
1. Egg White - 4
2.Peak Liquid Milk - 1 tin.
3. Icing sugar - 8 tablespoons
4. Gelatin 1/2 (teaspoon)
5. Vanilla flavour 1 teaspoon
Method:
1. Separate egg white carefully from the yolk .
2. Beat the egg white from foamy to stiff peaks.
3. Empty the milk in another bowl and and whisk.
4. Add sugar to milk and stir. Whisk till the sugar dissolves and it gets thick.
5. Dissolve your gelatin in hot water and add.
6. Add vanilla flavour or any of ur choice.
7. Whisk all till well blended, plate it and freeze.
