treatment options is a laudable feat and have made a huge difference, it is not nearly enough.โฃ

In my opinion, Diabetes awareness should not be an annual program, it should be a daily one.โฃ

There is still a lot of ignorance and misconceptions surrounding a disease that is rapidly eating up our populations both locally and globally, a disease that is best described as an epidemic.โฃ

Luckily, the situation is not all doom and gloom. With effective and consistent health education, aimed at equipping the populace and dispelling myths and misconceptions, diabetes will beโฃ

๐ŸŒ€5 UNHEALTHY HABITS THAT PUT YOUR BODY IN HARM'S WAY๐ŸŒ€

1) Eating more refined/artificial foods than natural ones.

Nearly all refined foods have their original nutrients stripped off.๐ŸŸ๐Ÿ”๐ŸŒญ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿฉ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿง๐Ÿง

Your body is no dump site. Treat it with some DIGNITY and RESPECT

2) You drink less than 2 litres of water daily, causing you to be dehydrated always

Infact, an adult male needs at least 3 litres of water daily while the female 2.5 litres. This is the least. There's always room for more

In case you didn't know, up to 60% of the human body is water.

The brain and the heart are composed of 73% water

The lungs, about 83%

Muscles and kidneys,79%

Skin, 64%

Even your bone carries about 31% of water

The less water you drink, the greater your chances of diseases like kidney stones, joint aches, constipation and many others.

Water can heal ! Water is life!! Drink more water!!!

3) Sugar! Sugar!! Sugar!!!

I'm talking about your white/refined sugars here

You overburden your body with excessive amount of sugar, way more than it needs when you frequently take in those fizzy drinks, beers and packaged fruit juices every now and then.

If you can do away with them, great. If you can't, start reducing the amount you consume

4)Not moving your body.

Contrary to the popular belief, exercises are not meant for only those who want to lose weight.

A fat person who exercises regularly can be fitter than a slim person who doesn't. Yeah ๐Ÿ˜‰.

Exercise keeps you fit and keeps your heart and muscles in good shape

You can begin with just walking 20-30mins daily, dance to your favorite music ,etc. It's not a must to exercise at the gymnasium

5) Not including vegetables and at least 2 portions of fruits daily in diet.

Smoking and drinking are two habits which are considered to be a part of high-risk lifestyle factors. The two are extremely harmful to your health.

The two habits have got a lot of negative criticism from the health industry and that is only for the well-being of people.
When done regularly, they can cause serious complications in the body. It is thus important to be aware of these health hazards caused by smoking and drinking as they will help you to quit.

1. Erectile dysfunction

DR, HOW CAN I KNOW IF I HAVE CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE?


After my last post on how to prevent chronic kidney disease, a lot of people asked me what the symptoms are.

It is a very important question and I'm happy to answer.
Studies have shown that only 10% of people with chronic kidney disease know that they do.

This is because most people do not have any symptoms in the early stages of the disease.

Symptoms usually appear when a lot of the kidney cells are dead and can no longer carry out their functions.

Also, many of the symptoms are general and a person may dismiss them as being from another source.

These symptoms may include:
- Unexplained tiredness and fatigue
-Foamy urine
-Back pain
-Swollen ankles and puffy eyes
-Blood in the urine
-Abnormal frequent urination
-Dry, itchy skin
-Poor appetite.


As you can see, most of these symptoms can be overlooked.
So, when it comes to kidney disease, it is best to prevent it.

Also, because hypertension and diabetes are the 2 leading causes, you must check your BP and Blood sugar regularly.
If any problem is found, you should endeavour to get them under control.

If you are at risk of diabetes and hypertension, do kidney tests yearly (Every black adult should do this).
Lastly, if you are overweight, this puts you at risk of diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease etc. Choose a healthy, sustainable way to lose weight.

Chronic kidney disease is fast becoming a huge problem.
Over 20 million adults are affected in Nigeria alone ( Nigerian Association of Nephrologists).

If discovered early, a lot can be done to delay progression and possibly, save the kidneys.
